Desperate for help - Tried everything but still getting choppy gameplay/flickering

I recently bought a new laptop, Acer Aspire 5102WLMi Notebook.

CompUSA specs

Basically it's 2 gigs of RAM, AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology Processor, 128mb Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card, and Windows XP Media Center. From what I understand, it is decent except for the card.

That wasn't a problem, however, since I could play small maps like Karkand and Sharqi on low settings pretty smoothly.

Two days ago however, even those started getting extremely choppy. My gun would glitch whenever I run, causing it to flicker up and down, and turning would be slow and exaggerated, leaving me unable to do anything but ride in my friend's vehicles.

I've tried everything so far, but I don't know why I would get a sudden performance decrease, especially on a new computer. Here are some of the things i've tried so far:

- Set everything to low or off.
- Reinstalling the game
- Prioritize my IRQ(on one of the tweak guides I read)
- Rename it to BF1.exe(again, tweak guide)
- Set Punkbuster checks to 500 seconds
- End every process that has my username on it except explorer.exe
- Delete my shader optimization folder and optimized it again
- Downloaded the AMD dual core optimizer and updated drivers
- Went into the Catalyst Control Center and set every setting to the lowest possible
- Defragged my hardrive
- Run spyware/adware/virus scans
- Uninstalled AVG because it was running in the background
- Uninstalled some unnessecary programs
- Researched overclocking, but found that I shouldn't overclock integrated graphics
- Tried to update video card drivers, but Catalyst 6.12 gave me an incompatibility error
- Tried to increase AGP size aperture, but didn't find the option to in my BIOS

I run it at 800 x 600 in windowed mode, with everything except textures set to low or off (textures is medium but I tried setting it to low). My distance view is set to 50%.

So please, what else can I do? I have no idea why performance would suddenly decrease like this, and I really want to enjoy the game, even if the graphics are terrible. I know my CPU can run it on low smoothly! It just doesn't anymore.

Also, I can spend around a hundred dollars to upgrade my laptop, but as I understand upgrading laptops is very limited. Would adding an extra gig of RAM do anything?

There is nothing that you could uprade. The GPU cannot handle the bf2 graphics.

you were lucky to get it going in the first place. You have probably killed your computer. If anything is going to go wrong then BF2 will find it for you.

Either it's overheating, or it's your drivers. Most likely the Catalyst drivers.

Thanks for the replies.

My computer doesn't overheat when running BF2, it fact it is relatively cooler than my older one which used a pentium 4.

About the drivers, i've tried regular Catalyst, IGP, Mobility, all of them give me an error that it is incompatible with my hardware. Accoding to the device manager, my driver version is 8.273 which I think is the drivers from Acer.

Anyway, thanks guys guess it was too good to be true.
