ok i just bought bf2 and wondering what do i need to download with the game:PATCHES, MODS.ect..... thanx everyone. cant wait to play, how is it and what is the best maps, weapons, kits.ect.....

Patch 1.41 is the latest. Get Special Forces (it's going to set you back £10/$15), it allows you to get a lot more stuff, although I'd say play the original for a while first. Best maps? None of them. Most common maps = Strike at Karkand and Wake Island 2007. Best kit = none, but it sure as hell isn't the Assault kit. Medics and Support guys are the actual Assault people in this game. Remember to TK for vehicles, bunnyhop and spam grenades as much as possible, and if people are on the floor shouting "medic!!!", it means you are doing a good job throwing grenades, and not that they want you to revive them. -

I'd say that Spec Ops is the best kit to play as, but then it is a personal favourite of mine
Seriously though, you get the carbine (pretty d**n accurate), a silenced pistol (not great but has uses), nades (great for clearing a flag before you go to cap it) and C4 (the daddy for taking out tank whores and blowing stuff up
).

Since the GL nerf, assualt is extremely underplayed. The armour barely helps, and the medic guns are just as good as the assualt ones. (+ you can revive and heal others and yourself). Medic IS the assault kit really.Comment

Downloads: Theres not much free stuff to get after the 1.41 patch, you could download wake airshow and the POV mod, there are some map packs that rarely get played (not ranked you see) and the rest scales downwards with popularity.
Paid for expansions: Now heres where EA shine, if you want extra unlocks in vanilla BF2 you have to buy the Special Forces addon, and if you want some more maps and a few differently skinned planes/helos etc then theres Euroforces and Armoured Fury (both in the same add on pack, called Booster Pack Collection).
As for best maps, weaps etc, have a search here and on other bf2 forums - people have been making silly polls about that kinda thing for ages. My favourite map is wake island 2007 but a lot like a crappy spammers map called Karkand (oww my eyes bleed). Best thing is to get yourself on an all-map server that plays the whole range of maps and have a go for yourself.

Road To Jalalabad is a personal favorite of mine,I'm always at a rtj server.
Best kits,Hmm...I'd say spec ops,And if you do get Special Forces you will get other guns,to use in regular BF.Comment

I suggest Downloading XFIRE. When XFIRE is on, it automatically downloads patches for all the games you have. and as for mods, USE THIS SITE!!!
Also for kits, my personal favorite is the medic. Medic is what gets ya points. I always use it except for those occasions when you need to kill a tank, or blow up the arty. As for maps, Strike at Karkand and Wake Island 2007 FTW!! Karkand- nice close up shootin', Wake- vehicles and tacticsComment
