Yes you can buy a new video card plus you got a PCI-Express x16 slot which is perfect I prefer you go to www.newegg.com and look at some of the NVIDIA card series from 7800 to 7950 because since the release of the 8800 series the 7800 series prices dropped. Once you found one you like and that is your budget post it here. So I can tell you if it is good or not.

EDIT: Also for the crashing problem make sure your not using a mini-image of the BF2 Cd.

Should have taken advantage of all the boxing day sales, he could have gotten a sufficient video card for DIRT cheap. Unfortunately he will HAVE to buy a new video card if he wants to play, that's all there is to it. Either spring for one or don't.

well i told him that he needs a new card and i have been looking around.

He said 300 is the most he can spend on a card.

And if his mobo supports sli i was looking at 2 of these cards.

But if his mobo dosent support sli i was looking at this single card.

Re: Battlefield 2 on a gateway question.

Open the gateway and figure out the PSU specifications. From the sys req's on the 7950 on newegg you linked to:

"A 350W PCI Express compliant system power supply (with 12V current rating of 22A or more)"

--"more" with a C2D might be appropriate.

edit: for $10 cheaper (or $10 more if you actually send in the rebate), i'm in love with the x1950xt, but as with the 7950, you're probably going to need a better-than-gateway-stock psu to run a bleeding edge graphics card.
Buy SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 100186L with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!
