A question concerning BF2 startup

i live in HK and due to the recent Taiwan earthquake some vital undersea connections were damaged. The upshot is that internet access here has been severely disrupted. I pretty much knew that i prob would not be able to play BF2 cos of no access to the account server (which i am guessing is in the US).

However, BF2 wont even load at all. Instead of going to the account login screen it just hangs. Task manager says BF2 is not responding.

My question is...Does BF2 need some sort of internet access prior to the login screen? If this is the case i can understand why its not working (as i have had no access to the US). But i thought you could play off line in which case is my prob due to a corrupted install.

As background i have adjusted nothing on my system (specs in sig)

You only need internet to play multiplayer.Try repatching it if that doesnt work the reinstall the game and repatch it. Then I dont know you could try taking out your internet cable or w/e your hooked up with and make a single player account and see if that works so you know its your connection if not something else

Hmmm....well i will do nothing untill the normal resumption of internet service. If the problem persists then i will reinstall. It just seems odd.

I am unable to make any account cos the game hangs prior to the login/create account screen. I am hoping that the game pings the account server or something prior to that screen....this may cause the hang as i have had no access to US sites/servers.. Its just a bit of a pain to reinstall the game

takes about 20 minutes for me to uninstall and reinstall and patch, not that bad...
