patching problems....

heres the prob: i have been running bf2 fine for a while now, but now when i try to update to 1.4 (from 1.3) the installer just says: cant find install folder for battlefield 2, the folder is there in the default directory however. the game works fine (aside from online connectivity probs, ie. press join game and crash, which is why i want to pach it.)
heres the specs:


CPU: pent. D 3.4 Ghz dual core
MOBO: intel 945PL express chipset
GRAPHICS CARD: Nvidia 7600 GT (256)
RAM: 2gb DDR2
HD: 200gb SATA (with like 25gb free space or so)
OS: MS XP pro SP2
Anti-Virus/firewall: kaspersky
Internet connection: 1.5 mb broadband(dont know provider)

First, Try this.

Place the patch in your desktop and run it from there. If that still don't work, then you are having registry problems. This is how you fix it:

1.Go To Start > Run > Type "regedit" (without quotes)

2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2

3. Then right click on the right hand window and go on NEW string value,then enter InstallDir for the string name and for the value enter D:\GAMES\Battlefield 2

(or whatever your BF2 Path is)

try this

as for the crashing when you click Join Game, try pressing the Esc key instead

it dosent work from te desktop and there is no bf2 folder in the registry

Some optimizing guides suggest changing the exe files name. Go here.

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

Make sure your exec file is in there and named: BF2.exe

If that directory is there, and that file is named as above, the install should work and all I can suggest is to redownload it.

follow the instructions it tells you to create a registry string so that their is a bf2 folder in the registry
