It's pretty normal with that combination of CPU and RAM. I advise you upgrade your RAM to 2GB, and DEFINITELY upgrade that CPU, that CPU is struggling.

Personally, I like the 84.21 drivers the best, don't ask me why(because I can't explain it), but they work the best for me. Lowering your resolution to 800x600 should boost your frames some........

            That's normal.

You should have more RAM tho, and better processor.

Sometimes having all settings on low can create problems.

There is the odd thing you should set to minimum medium level to actually improve gameplay, but I'm afraid I can't remember which ones to change right now. sorry.

84.21s are the best imo, with a decent cpu and 2gb of ram you should be able to manage high settings.

also, with the 90s series drivers, it comes with transparency AA, which is bad for fps (causes some stutters for me), so leave it off as it isnt really that necessary

Don't bother going out and buying new hardware. That'd likely mean a new
motherboard, CPU and video card. The 6800 GT 256MG should be perfectly capable of 1280x720 with settings on medium - low. I play with a 6800GS OC
and there's NO lag and everything is on medium 1152x864.

Hell, I even play F.E.A.R and Oblivion with pretty good results. So yeah, keep your hardware, unless of course you have $400 - $600 to blow.

He said TRANSPARENCY AA, not MSAA(the standard AA we all know and love) which you refer to...quite a difference, if you don't know it, research it.
                            .
                            .
                            .
                            Thread starter:

Just for comparisons sake I am using:

                            AMD64 3200+ @2.0ghz(stock)
                            2x1024 pc3200
                            x800xl 256mb

Our cards are nearly identical in performance, yet I am running 1024x768@75hz, all settings as HIGH as they can go, 6xAA...no problems. My brother with the same system runs the same settings but at 1152x864...so there is still room for me.

Having the 2nd gig of ram allows me the use of HIGH Textures, vs you having them on MED(fine for 1 gig). But I don't see why you can't have the rest of your settings on MED rather than LOW.

The difference between our CPU's isn't that staggering that you'd be using LOW's vs my HIGH's.
As someone else pointed out, you might actually see better performance going to slightly higher settings(leave TEXTURES at MED though).

Your video card is not the problem. I have the same video card and once all the crap has been loaded into the ram and theres no stuttering, the video runs like butter. Unfortunately, I also have the same amount of RAM, and I have some severe hesitation at the beginning of games. You need another gig to get rid of the problems, or atleast 512MB.
