    VOIP Query/help needed

Well from what i have been reading all over the net, it seems as though alot of people have problems with the game VOIP, so il try and explian this as well as i can.

I have been using VOIP for a while, on things such as ventrilo, teamspeak e.t.c and my voice levels are fine. However in BF2 i can hear everyone else fine, and they can hear me, its just that im almost silent.

My soundcard is an onboard Realtek High definaition sound card (although i have set it to AC97 sound so as my plugs on my PC case work)

Thiose are my settings for my recording, and its a similar story in-game, inbound and outbound set at 100% and thershold set at 0% (nomatter where i put the threshold it makes no difference really) However Boost mic gain isnt selectable for some reason.

I am using latest drivers for my sound devices and BF2 is patched up-to date, and battlecomme is turned on and working in the server. Also like some people have suggested i have selected Basic acceleration for my sound card in the DXDIAG options.

I hope someone can help me and would be greatfull of any suggestions.

PS. Coming from many forums myself i know how bad a request for help looks as a first post, so please excuse that

From my own personal experiance, and it's not a whole heckofva lot (I'm only a SSgt), rarely does anyone even try and use VOIP when in squads. Only a very few times do I get responses as squad leader, and it's even more rare that a squad leader actually uses it when I'm in a squad.
why I have no idea...I think it's a great communication tool for gaming.
And teamwork is the key, IMOHPO, to winning in this game.

Well im glad im not the only one then. I also cant get the voice setup utility to register any sound even though (as i said) in the mic test in game i can hear myself, even if it is very quiet, and like i said my mic works fine otherwise.

Try reinstalling your sound card drivers. Try deactivating the BF2 Sound, hitting apply and then immediately reactivating it and hitting apply again.

Your sound card may just not be able to push more than one DX application. Unfortunately, one suggestion would be to pay $30 for a soundblaster type soundcard.

Thanks for the reply Simon. Il try the de/activate sound option later on when im in-game.

I dont mind paying for a decent soundcard at all, so if the abopve option doesnt work, im assuming any decent soundcard will do the job?

Also it maybe worth mentioning. I have never tried to run any VOIP client and chat in ventrilo using in-ghame VOIP at the same time. Only ever used one at a time. I have however played in BF" whilst using Ventrilo without any altering of mic levels

I had issues when I first got BF2. I had always been a teamspeak user, so my Voip was always turning itself off. I changed my TS codec and turned the voip off and on and it worked together fine ever since.

I'm hoping that alone will work for you. If not, I higly suggest a very affordable Audigy Soundblaster card.

well, for me, the soundcard should be the issue, ive been producing music with reason and cubase for several years now, and my sound card is an edirol fa-101. for those that have somthing to do with computer sound, youll know that that wouldnt be the problem.

A USB2/Firewire Interface sound device? Can Direct X even recognize that?

Well for you, the area to monkey with is Page 30 of your user manual.

Make sure you are set to WDM. Monkey with the settings in there. To what? I got no idea but try going with extremes like too much or too little to try to get anything to make a sound in BF2.

Best of luck with that one man. I love Roland products for music (keyboard wise) but never tried recording stuff from them.

My hopes are high as well.

The in box drivers may be old (they are always old ) so once installed, get your update here

i have had the problem where i cant hear people in my team to fix this i simply turned the volume in the main BF2 controls down except the voice wich i kept up, i know this wont help you too much but for others strugling to hear its handy as it can be quite oftern overlooked

Ok. (sorry if doubkle post isnt allowed)

I got the card today Creative Audigy Soundblaster SE. Plugged it in. and well it only playes sound out of my front left channel of my speakers.

I have tried all different conbinations of settings and plugging the jacks in different places, but cant seem to get it playing sound out of al 6 speakers corectly. Havnt even got on to testing if it works in game yet.

So if anyone else has a 5.1 speaker setup with this card or similar, would they mind giving me some screenshots or something showing ther settings?

EDIT: ok it seems as though my audio splitter (so as i could use my headphones aswell) was taking 2 of the channels to the headphones, nevermind it plays correctly now. Except still havnt been able to get voice recording/BF2 mic test to pick anything up. Here are my settings, just for you to brose over, just to check its all ok.

                              Also my DXDIAG screenshot
