    Badges, medals, ribbons, etc

Apart from looking good on your stats page, is there honestly a reason to have them? I hear they contribute to global points in BF2142 - is this also true for BF2?

Not sure about 2142. But BF2 any awards do not contribute to your global score. A reason to have them if like a clan looks at yours stats and see these awards they would be like wow he is good. etc lol

All they are for is for players to set goals and to look nice when people check you out.

LOL if a clan was checking out a prospect and he had 30 or so purple hearts would they take him?

Getting the awards is a show of what you have done in game. Having the awards doesn't get you 'more'.

No real practical reason as such, but I enjoyed working towards most of mine, and I think thats where their value lies. The thrill of the chase and all that.

Agreed. Plus the feeling of satisfaction once they popped up on screen :)

Especially if it is an award you've been working on for weeks or months. I was about to explode when I finally got the Meritorious Service Award.

it's so the game doesn't get boring and you have certain things to try get, like the badges it makes the game more varied and you have to be good at everything to earn everything... not just medic whore...

For some people that is the only reason they play BF2 and it may be in 2142 (I am not sure) but in bf2 there just there for looks.
