I give up! I need your help.

I got BF1942 the day it came out

I got BF2 the day it came out.

    Don't ask about BF2142.

    Anyways

So I've had this game for about 1.5 years, and I still can't get VoIP working.

When I first installed the game, I canceled the VoIP config. So about 2 months later, I reinstalled and set my thresh-holds. Still didn't work.

The stupid "enable voip" stays unchecked. I check it, join a game, and it doesn't work. I go back to options, and it has unchecked itself. What the frick?

So someone suggested the DXdiag thing. Tried that and hazzah! It worked. Then I had to re-install the game (a different issue i was troubleshooting) and it did the same thing. Changed the DXdiag thing again, still didn't work.

And here's the weird thing, I checked the option to enable, went into a game, had a squad, hit the button and the little speaker icon came up. Did it work? So I tried again, no speaker and I couldn't hear anyone (contrary to popular belief - if you turn off VoiP, you can't hear anyone either).

Went back to options, and it was unchecked again!

So I thought "perhaps it turns itself off when it senses low bandwidth". My buddy's computer is right next to me and it has NEVER had a problem with VoIP.

Well thats usually the problem/fix, Onboard sound doesn't do VoIP too well so you have to go into DxDiag - Sound Tab and move the Slider to Basic Acceleration

Hmm..I use VoIP to annoy people lol

Try forcing it in the config. The game sometimes forces me to use no AA so i have to set it to 4x in the configs (My Documents\Battlefield Field 2\00x\)

Confirm that after you click the enable you are also clicking the hidden APPLY button down below? I know you probably are, but I have to ask...sorry.

Drivers are the usual suspect. What sound card do you have?

If you go into your XP Sound recorder ( start>allprograms>accessories>entertainment>soundr ecorder) does your microphone work?

        Thanks,

        Simon

are you sure the ports for it are not blocked on any firewall or router? (55123-55125 udp)

              I fixed it (I think)

opened DXdiag again and saw that it had reset itself. i must've reinstalled directx recently.

It's working somewhat well now, sometimes it stops working though.

              thanks for you help folks!

yes but voip you dont have to go through the hassle entering the ip, figuring out passwords.
you just join a squad and talk on the spot
