Teamspeak?

Got a question here, would it be annoying if you were playing with someone who listened to (on your side of course) the chatter but did not add to it? I ask because I'm an older guy who plays usually when my wife falls asleep. I can't go chattering away on a mic because in NYC, unless you're loaded, you will hear everything no matter what room you are in.

The only time this would be annoying would be if the mute person in Teamspeak was a Commander or Squad Leader.

If the mute was simply a Squad Member then all they really need to do is listen to the plan via Teamspeak from the Squad Leader so they know what they are needed to do or where they are needed to go.

We have some shy folks in our clan that don't like to chat it up too much in our TS, but I tell them to get in it anyways so they know whats going on when we are in BF2 together.

*** edit, I should add that I have routinely been given "the words" from my wife too for being too loud when playing and chatting in TS. Infact, my two year old even once woke up and told my wife to "Tell Daddy to keep it down!" No kidding :)

I have several buddies that play under these constraints. Just don't play a position that you need to speak. Use your Spotting ability too.

I've been under the cone of silence a couple of times as well. You can do it, but as said above, try not to command unless it's a map that doesn't require a lot of communication (like gator)

TS is good but not when you have someone on your team giving you a running commentary on their every move!!!

Teamspeak can be used for tactics and strategy, but I find it usually just turns up the social notch a few degrees. I like the social aspect of the game and the ability to talk amongst command or squads through use of this. the game VOIP is too limited.

If you use a headset, & talk in a normal tone of voice you should not bother any 1

I can't control myself. If I allow myself to talk, I then allow myself to scream at the bunnyhoppers, nade spammers and don't get me started on the TK'ers...

Why don't you use the "in-game" voice control? It's annoying that people use TS while playing and your trying to communicate through the "in-game" voice control and your only getting half the conversation from your squad leader. TS was great back in the days od DC when there was no othe roption but now it seperates the players who use the "in-game" voice.

i just have a mic no headset and it works fine for me but i can understand since your in NYC

I use both. TS for my squad regulars, VOIP for the limited amount of non-regs that can actually talk and the command VOIP channel.

I've got all three setup on my joystick too for my chopper coms. It's quite easy to do. You don't have to transmit on both simultaneously.
