    Index of the mods?

Hey, I'm kinda getting bored with BF2 already (12k p).
Can someone list the most... say 10-15 popular mods (sorted by popularity)?
And write whether they're ranked or not, if possible. Thanks :)

heavily depends on what you like
if you like BF2 arcade combat then download Point of Existence 2

if you think that BF2 is an unrealistic mess with no teamwork then get Project Reality

if you just want something different download the Sir mods (sandbox, battleracer etc.)

The rest probably are not worth mentioning as they don't have any players and tlking about unreleased mods is a waste of time

Oh and forgot to mention I have a serious ping problem so there must be a lot of players playing in them.

I think i'll give a try to PoE and PR for now, since you said there aren't much mods that worth trying.

By the way PoE and PR are ranked, right?

        Re: Index of the mods?

POE2 and PRMM are the best two mods with populated servers out. However each is drasticly different.

POE2 is fun and a little bit arcady but nothing like BF2 is. It has all original vehicles and maps... and tons of them! Only thing this mod lacks is urban maps for right now... but the next patch is supposed to change that.

PRMM is really trying to be realistic to the point of not being fun (For me at least, others love it). Most of the maps are pretty good and focused around urban combat. But the way things are coded from vehicles to grunt combat is too much realism and takes away the fun.

There are other mods that are good but nobody plays them such as USI and OPK. Coming soon (I hope) is FH2, EOD, Pirates, and First Strike for 2142. So mods are the way to go... since they started coming out... I hardly touch BF2 anymore.

          :/
another one who likes his badges and numbers...

PoE2 and Project Reality both are part of the Alternative Battlefield Ranking so yes they are ranked, just not by EA

              yes - a clean slate
but why care about points? seriously they are just numbers - they have no value and this is an FPS not Everquest with M16s

Why not play a game as it was meant to be played - for fun, and support the mod makers who work unpaid for hours a week to fix a game that DICE and EA destroyed by making better games for free for the community. Play Project Reality for example not for stats but for the realistic weapons and the combat immersion and the squad teamwork and the incredible sounds and the new gamemodes.

                  Re: Index of the mods?

i will make my post short:

POE2 - arcade, new vehicles, new maps, new armies

PR - teamwork, DEEP gameplay, tactics, strong community, 'as real as it gets'

BF2 Sandbox - insane stunts, build your own world (if the smacktards dont ruin it that is)

Battleracer - race around bf2 maps in turbo charged cars.

thats the only things that are played online that im aware of.... sorry but bf2 mods are in the dumps because people like you are obsessed with stats. sorry to be so blunt but its the truth.

i wish there was a better list for mods that are ACTUALLY played, not the mods that no one ever plays...

                    Hmm thanks everybody.

And hey i'm a really good example for a teamplayer... The only reason I "like" points is the unlocks. I'm getting near my next promotion so I'd prefer the mods to be ranked, that's all.

no worries man but after playing some great mods, youll sort of be snapped out of the trance EA has you under....

playing hours and hours for these useless unlocks, its like they are throwing you a bone when you could be 'feasting' on all the free new content that the mods have to offer!

I just cant comprehend going back to vanilla, especially for their 'unlocks'... download a mod and its like you get 100 unlocks ALL AT ONCE! seriously man!

                        Re: Index of the mods?

it's all true - I don't think I have even booted vanilla since I tried realitymod 0.4. It was very raw and rough in its early releases but right now it really is maturing into something incredible and I've fallen in love.
You just won't find any other GAME let alone mod that encourages and attracts teamplay like PRM and the developers desire to make the game as realistic as is possible within the BF2 engine is the icing on the cake
Give it the rule of 2 - try it once and walk away. Try it a second time and you will be hooked

Hey get this, you start off with EVERYTHING unlock! What a concept! What you earn through time is memories and a good time as well as being skillfull in game! Stats RUINED the freakin game...

IDK, I think it's a different experience (for points / for... frag?).
My first MP game was Delta-Force Land Warrior. It's based on ranks as well.
It was amazing. I was always driven by will to rank up, and it provided much enjoyment.

After... 1 and a half year of playing DFLW I bought CS, which is not a rank-based game. it's a totally different aspect of the game. It's less about aiming to a certain target (like a really high rank) and more about getting a better aim, getting a better KDR then the last round etc.

I think BF2 would be boring of it wasn't ranked. I don't say that none point-based games are boring, not at all. It's just... the type of this game. BF2 is slow, requires a lot of thinking, tactics and teamwork in contrast with for instance CS in which you can win the round by your own. It's faster and doesn't require all the things above. A different type of game.

                              Re: Index of the mods?

I guess it is just a difference of opinion. I come from BF1942 and loved it to death. The game was always exciting and a rush. All the maps were great, all the weapons and vehicles were fun. Even now I can boot it up and have a great time after playing the game to death... and as of late I have been doing exactly that. No stats, no unlocks, just pure fun and gameplay.

BF2 and BF2.142 missed that "fun" factor and had to make up for it with stats and ranks. Just take a step back and think about how much more you enjoyed mods! And those are by amatures in their spare time! BF2 had years by pros working on it and missed the mark. Then you have the bar AKA CS which has no stats or ranks; yet has 3-4x as many players than BF2 at any given time. That is something to really think about...
