Pretty much every comparison puts the 7950 just ahead of the x1950 and its a bit cheaper to boot.

Old comparison; there's no x1950xt with the newer 625/1800mhz reference.

This places it directly against NVIDIA's GeForce 7950 GT. Based on the benchmarks we have seen, the Radeon X1950 XT more than holds its own against its NVIDIA opponent and mirrors ATI's recent successes like the Radeon X1950 PRO in offering a slightly better price performance proposition.

Either card would be great for the BF2 engine. How much is the 7950gt you are considering?

PSU: You need to have at least a 450W PSU to power an x1950xt gpu (you might scrimp by if you've got a very good 380W with the right rails). This will be printed on the PSU; you're going to have to open your case to check.

Edit: for clarification just in case, the PSU is the Power Supply Unit "box" that you plug the cord into.

As far as which one to get--I'd still get the x1950xt since its a better card in the same price range (maybe a few Pritish Bounds more).

Oh, and you should answer Munk's question. Everyone is making the assumption that you have an open PCI-E port, but it would be quite embarassing (and costly to you) if you split your new PCI-E card in two trying to ram it into an AGP port. :)

Right. Damn. Ok. Well I only have a 300w PSU :hmm:, but they only seem to cost about a tenner so thats an easy upgrade. But how easy are they to install?

I think I have a PCI-E port though, at the moment im running Geforce 6200 (which sucks with a passion), and I think its a PCI-E card, though I'd like someone to clarify this please...

Also just looking over everything is my ram and processer good enough to run this beast?

PSU's are usually pretty easy. First, you unplug all the stuff that is plugged into it, then you unscrew the four screws on the back that secure it to the case frame WHILE HOLDING IT SECURELY from the inside (lot's of PSU's will crash down on your components once the last screw is out. Then, you just carefully pull it out, carefully put the new one in, screw back in the screws, and plug back in the cables.

You really need to find out what sort of port you have; click start-->run-->type DXDIAG [enter] You could also check your bios--what you really need to do is find out the exact model of your current motherboard.

i wouldnt get a power supply for £10 you need powerful 12v rails for a good graphics card like that

Alright, these are my crappy specs:



So what I need is as follows,

-The Graphics card (obviously)
-Another GIG of ram possibly this If anyone could find better value ram it would help
-A new PSU possibly this EDIT- link broken, its what Death Merchant poasted

Oh, and I was looking throught a chat I had with a freind a while back "you have a PCI-Express x 16 graphics card slot".

Im trying to find out what my exact model is all I know its a Compaq Prestario 061.

Nah, I'll never get enough money.... Plus im not even paying for the card, my parents are so I think asking for a new computer would kill them.

A decent 450W PSU and a gpu will make you happy gamer. If you've got the money, another gig would help smooth things out and make loading times faster all-around.
