Just a quickie.

For those with the sense to go Engineer while armour whoring (rather than.... Sniper???):

When you repair in or near a hot spot, park a mine in front and behind the vehicle.

This way - when you're riddled and the enemy steals your ride, it's a very short ride!

Put the mine on the vehicle and you only need to use the one. As soon as the vehicle moves, it blows.
In the back of utes and humvees is another fav spot.

Just make sure not to use this if ff=on for mines/clays .

Cheers lads.

I didn't think of mines staying put, as the BF2 environment isn't genuinely ineteractive. I tried putting claymore in a humvee once, and the doggam things just 'fell thru the floor'.

Any other Engineer tips?

I believe it's always possible to always gain kills when you put C4 on your chopper- especially when either you or an enemy pilot decides to kamikaze you/him/her. It works virtually the same as a jihad-jeep, but more like buying 'insurance'.

Mines are friendly these days. Unless you go on a server that's specifically mine-unfriendly.

Friendly mines = mines that don't blow up when a friendly vehicle runs over them (friendly being, of the same team that the mines belong to).

Unfriendly server = servers with friendly fire turned on, however, the irony is that, the 'friendly fire' is not friendly at all, what with them actually hurting friendlies... I guess thats why they call it 'friendly fire'.

yes but the discussion had switched to C4 which may have been his confusion.

Friendly or not, if you exit your vehicle over any mine, it is going to go off when the vehicle goes from friendly to neutral. This is something built into the BF2 Engine regarding the appearance of a neutral vehicle. Thats why when you plant a mine where a tank is going to spawn, it goes off right when the tank appears.

So if you see mines or of you get in your vehicle and decide to get right back out, be careful.

So '0' means FF is on (i.e. you get spammed by noobs punishing TKs when they happily step on a thing with a big red skull n xbones), and '1' means noob-friendly?

Speaking of FF, for linguists. While playing when i heard one guy on VoIP yelling 'Tirez!Tirez! Argh!' and his squad buddy 'Co je? Nerozumim. Mluvis Cesky?'. It was a truly NATO moment.

1 means ff is on 0 means ff is off. You had it the other way around

Speaking of binaries: if you think about it a bit- 0 means nothing, nil, void, NULL, 1 would be the opposite of 0 for it is a full value; therefore- 0 always means OFF/NULL and 1 always means ON/NOT-SO-NULL :P.

its exactly what binary means stupid. computers run on binary code because its a 'code' that can be built in the real world then translated to digital.
binary in the real world works on the exact basis 0=off 1=on. so in a circuit of a computer you have thousonds of these gates and switches that are either 0 or 1. current off or on. usually nowerdays people have built complex programs that turn binary code into things we can understand like letters of the alphabet. for example if i were to start talking in binary: 1000010 1100010 1110100 1110100 1101100 1100101 1100110 1101001 1100101 1101100 1100100 1011111 0110010 I would Have just said 'Battlefield_2' (case sensative, using PC amercian standard ASCII code) but as you can see it is very long and hard using binary.

Back to the topic:
I put mine under the tank/apc - when you throw it on vehicle it may fall down to the side and be not effective. Also when when I'm going to get off the tank for repairs I release smoke to hide myself from those bad snipers :)
