Connection problems and crashing BF2. (kinda long)

Built a new pc and decided to purchase BF2 (and a few other games). System is e6400, evga 680i mobo, 2GB Crucial 10th Anniv, evga 7950GT KO SuperClocked, WD raptor hard drive, etc.
Installed XP pro fresh and BF2. I had already downloaded the 1.41 patch so installed that right off the bat. Played fine for a few days of maybe 1 hour per day play. Then started getting "There is something worng with your connection" errors. Sometimes would get one every 15 minutes but somedays would get it literally every minute or two. I would close BF2 and do a speedtest at dslreports. Here are the results from one of the worst nights.

    Speed Test Result
    dslreports.com speed test 2006-12-02 21:08:11 EST:
    8932 / 920 (Kbps)
    (1090.3 / 112.3 KB/sec)
Compared to the average of 4858 tests from comcast.net:
    * download is 27% better, upload is 119% better

Never had a connection problem so I do not think that is it. Searched google and tried suggestions like disbale VOIP (didn't work), only using one core (didn't work), deleting some cache file in My Documnets for BF2 (didn't work). Then I read somewhere to update punkbuster. Did that and it almost immediately kicked me back to my desktop with no errors. I figured it was a fluke but it then did it three more times within 3-5 minutes of play. Not sure if this was directly related to punkbuster but it never did that before the update.

I have uninstaled BF2 in hopes of reinstalling to see if that miraculously changes things.
Any ideas on what I can try to help my situation??

Going to run a search on the forums now but I've googled so much my head can't take much more.

how many players did your maps have when you joined? DSL should support around 32 players

also, is it wireless? because if it is, consider using the cable line, you get a much faster and a more solid internet connection...

To bump this up again I'm having the exact same problem.

        My system.

        X2 3800
        DFI Ultra D
        2 gigs OCZ RAM
        7900GT

My connection is wired and I never had a problem until the latest patch. I tried disabling VOIP as that helped for some people but it still didnt fix it on my end.

Same problem with the g/f's rig. Hers specs:

          Intel 3.6 GHz Prescott
          GeForce 7800 GT w/ 256
          1 Gig ram

It plays for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two. But then it freezes, dragging out whatever sound was playing at the moment into an awful "DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD" type sound, then it will either cease and go back to normal for a few minutes, or disconnect back to main menu.

          Didn't happen pre-1.41 patch.

I might try reinstalling later but this install is pretty fresh. In fact the install of Windows itself is only 4 months old and I never had a single connection problem before this latest patch.

My problem is just like the OP and my game doesn't lockup I just get the Connection Problem detected warning and then disconnected from the server.
