BF2 wont start again without reboot.

So heres my prob. I run BF2 once and I exit out fine, but after I go to go in again I get this message:

BF2.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x66788c9c" referenced memory at "0x00ac5000". The memory could not be "read".

Click OK to terminatethe program
Click CANCEL to debug the program

And then I'm given a choice of OK and CANCEL. Neither does anything but closes the window.

My specs: P4 Northwood 2.8 Ghz, RADEON X800 GTO -> X850XT, 1.5 GB Crucial PC3200 RAM, 80 GB Western Digital HDD.

Any help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention that I did a reinstall and it still persists.

First glance: sounds like it really might be a memory issue. How is your memory set up? 1gb + 512mb? 1gb + 2x256mb?

If so, suggest you take a stick (or more) out and see what happens, until you are sure that one of your sticks isn't bad.

Edit: You probably already know this, but *DON'T SIT ON THE CARPET AND WORK ON YOUR PC.* The *way* that memory gets broken is by people discharging static from their hands to PC components. Ground yourself with a wrist strap, else always touch the metal case of the computer while you are also touching sensitive electronic components.

Second possibility: you've got programs running in the background that are conflicting with calls from BF2.exe. What do you keep running the background? AV/AS/FW/MSMG/YMSG...etc?

Third possibility: Your pagefile is corrupt or set too low. Recommend you delete the pagefile, defrag your hd, the setup the pagefile again.

Fourth possibility through 874th possibility: Lot's of other things. But I'd try the ram removal/closing programs/clearing pagefile first for memory errors.

I got a 512x2 an 256x2 setup. Ill try pullin two of em and see what happens. As for the pagefile thing, how would I go about doing all that?

As for programs all I got is the windows stuff and ObjectDock, which I know isn't the problem because I had this issue before I got OD.

I ran Memtest on my RAM and it says its perfect so I assume that the RAM is not the problem.

Everything you wanted to know about handling your pagefile. Basically, you go under your my computer/hardware/advanced/performance/advanced and set the page file to 0MB. Then you reboot the computer, and defrag your hd. You then go back into your pagefile, and set it for 1.5x (rule of thumb) your memory (your case 3700MB, but anything over 1000mb should be fine since you have a good amount of system memory).

Still, at a glance it is most likely that one of your sticks is either bad or doesn't play well with the others, especially on a 2x512mb and 2x256 set up.

Good luck. Test both of your 512mb sticks individually, and alone. If the problems go away, then start adding more sticks and see what happens.

Ok heres what I did, I pulled each stick and ran the other 3, the problem persisted. I'm pretty sure this isn't a memory issue. It seems to be going fine. I reset the pagefile and all that and I still have this problem. Any sujestions?

Ok, I did some more, I pulled both 256mb and just ran the 2x512s. Same error. I ran the 512s by themselves, same error. I'm now very sure that its not the RAM. Any other sujestions?

I did notice something interesting though, when I left the 512x2 and pulled one of the 256s my systems seemed noticably faster. Thats very odd.
