Do you have a 3rd party browser like Qtracker? It is a nice way to find the more populated servers. Might check out UTAC, pretty organized server. La Cantina had a server up for a while, but I think they dropped it. Hope they put it up again because people are buying the boosters now.

Ouch... You can still sort by map name to find AF & EF maps. You might want to shut a few services down on your PC while playing. Try shutting stuff down before playing. I use a bat file (simple script) to turn off stuff before playing. You can make one by pasting the following lines into a file, and saving it as SetPlayServices.bat; then just double click on it before playing.

          net stop "Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler"
          net stop "Automatic Updates"
          net stop "Error Reporting Service"
          net stop "Help and Support"
          net stop "IIS Admin"
          net stop "Print Spooler"
          net stop "SNMP Service"
          net stop "Task Scheduler"
net stop "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)"
          net stop "Windows Management Instrumentation"
          net stop "Wireless Zero Configuration"
          net stop "WMI Performance Adapter"

Some people add lines to stop the AV sofware, but I don't. These commands simply stop services and does not change the fact that they start up automatically when the system is started. You can make another bat file (SetNormalServices.bat) to turn things on with these lines:

          net start "Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler"
          net start "Automatic Updates"
          net start "Error Reporting Service"
          net start "Help and Support"
          net start "IIS Admin"
          net start "Print Spooler"
          net start "SNMP Service"
          net start "Task Scheduler"
net start "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)"
          net start "Windows Management Instrumentation"
          net start "Wireless Zero Configuration"

WMI Performance Adapter is omitted in the start up intentionally as it is called by WMI.

There are also a lot of Video setting changes that you can make to speed frame rates up, but that's another thread all together...

If you can't find any maps, go to www.clanutac.com to get the IP and server status, and then you can Connect to IP if you don't see the server in your list.

There is an option in QTracker, that will shut the software down when you load BF2. It will also keep your Username/password so when you say "connect", it will shut Qtracker down and pipe your info to the sofware, and it will go straight to the server, without asking your account info or what the server is you want.

The only derailing thing I will note about Qtracker, is can take some processing and overhead just searching the net for servers...I never tried it on my older box but the way it impacts my newer machine, I suspect that it will give you a reason to step away while it queues up a listing.

Give it a try none-the-less. It is a good piece of software that covers a lot of other games besides BF2. I used to use it way...wayyyyyyy, back in the day and it has evolved well to this point. Give it a shot, it is not like it is going to format your machine!
