Re: Interesting read about "ststs" in BF2
Nice read. I remember reading it a long time ago.
Theres a lot of truth, and a lot of crybaby´ism in the article though, especially when it comes to air vehicles.
I believe there wouldnt be half as much of problems if scoring would be based on the vehicle used-
Infantry 2pts
Armor 1pts
Air 1pts
Or something similar.Comment

expanding on chris' point - it would be cool to award points based on the balance of the situation.
for example - i think shooting down a helo with your SRAW should award more points than shooting it down with a jetComment

He's right. In the proper hands, a helicopter can make or break a team...Originally posted by troybob
If your team's jets keep the opposition busy, the helicopter can easily take out the enemy choppers, tanks, apcs, infantry and just generally raise hell. I know.
I don't see a point in nerfing it again, though: if the heli team is good, tough luck mr. infantryman... you'll just have to accept your fate. It takes talent to fly one properly, so why punish the people who've taken the time to learn and master the skill?
I can't feel bad for people who want helis nerfed because they have no aptitude for them.Comment

So, what would I get for shooting down an AH-1Z Super Cobra with my MK3A1 Jackhammer shotgun? Honest to God, I shot one down this morning. Clearly he was wounded and hovering just over the flag pole, and when he exploded he took me out with him. But, surely this kill deserves more than just one little point, no? :laugh:Comment

Re: Interesting read about "ststs" in BF2
Then you need to play the game designed for lemmings- BF2142, which is the statpadders EXP pack for BF2.
A long while ago people suggested that everything you do on the battlefield would be rewarded with pts in order to keep people doing specific tasks. I was one of those suggesting people. It seemed like the best idea to actually force people, lemmings to do things in the game. You are one of those lemmings.
If it was up to me, I would discard all points and throw the entire stat tracking off the window. You dont need to play a game because it "rewards" you with cyber ego points. You play the game A) to have fun and B) to play by the rules and objectives the game is designed to be played by and for. If you need PTS to play to win, you are a lemming.
The whole point equalization idea is just to support the stat tracking and keep the infantry boys who have spent zero hours on perfecting their skills against heavy targets happy and give them something to think about without hearing them cry.
And if you were indeed killing a helo with a Jackhammer (Ive done it with a handgun), then you would get the standard ammount of points. Infantry vs armor/helicopters = X pts. You can then come back to the forums and squeal of joy that you oh so love the new stat system and you finally outscore those nasty air whores. And in the end of the post you can add that AA is worthless.:cry:Comment

From the awards that you have acquired it is clear to see that you have spent a lot of time in a helo. One thing though, you said "so why punish the people who've taken the time to learn and master the skill". The problem with this is that the newer players to the game rarely get a chance to get in the chopper to try it out because some whore will kill them for it before they can get any where near to it.Originally posted by SloiHe's right.
