Disconnects as soon as I start playing

Been getting this nine times out of ten (literally) since I installed the 1.41 patch.
My internet is fine and stable, I connect to any map, as soon as the game starts up with the map, it's the dreaded 'there is a problem with your connection', and then bye bye. This 'works' with every server I tried, so no problem with my connection?

You should post in tech support, not general discussion. I don't know why you have connection problems but if you have a wireless connection it should the first thing to investigate.

Each time i play this game, the first server i join i always get that message. It sends me back to the lobby, i join a different server and its fine. Its been happening for so long i just get used to it. I have a wireless network connection so i think its to do with that.

        Sorreeee!
Nothing wrong with the 'connection', it's funny it happens straight after I install the patch??

Re: Disconnects as soon as I start playing

Only just started with me, I've had a 99% reliable connection. On my router there are two lights. In the past these go off, and the connection is predictably cut. Now the lights remain on, and it disconnects???
Maybe it's defaulted some of my settings in the menu (DSL/T1, etc). I'll check now.

Really quick replies as well, thanks!!!

There are 2 things that I KNOW! it could be.
1: Put the PBupdate in the PB FOLDER!!!! and run the update.
2: If you are on WLAN, reset the connection or lower the signal output.
I am running my PC from the router, but my son has his via WLAN from the same router, had the disconnects ALL! the time, but after I reseted and lowered the WLAN signal from 100%-50% all seems to work perfect in BF2. Now this might suck for some, but my son don't really care as he only chats and play NFSC SP :P

Re: Disconnects as soon as I start playing

surely that would increase lag no? cause when my signal is low that happens. And how do you change the signal strength anyway?

Re: Disconnects as soon as I start playing

Now that is for me, I am on the ROUTER via CABLE!, my son is on WLAN! so I am not affected, rather he is...I guess . Don't know if this works if you are using WLAN....maybe not as you say as the signal would get weaker. But anyhow, I can set that up in my router config under WLAN settings. I guess each brand have different software and stuff so you better search for a manual for your brand. And check the sticky Tech FAQ in this section, there is a lot mentioned there about this prob.

"5. If on a Wireless router try plugging it directly into the internet, to see if your lag is been cause by a bad router or interference."

"7. if on a wireless connection this may make it better/worse, or do no change.
Once a connection is established go to run and type "services.msc". Scroll down until you see "Wireless Zero Configuration" and click stop."

Also updating ur Chipset Drivers might do the trick.

Re: Disconnects as soon as I start playing

f this is the same problem I've run across in the past, I'd be willing to bet money that you're running Windows XP Service Pack 1. The Internet connection dropping repeatedly was a known problem that I believe was corrected with the release of Service Pack 2, which you can download and install using the Windows Update site. SP2 addressed a problem with Windows XP's Wireless Zero Configuration service.

For those of you not familiar with it, the Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service is not a third-party application, but rather a service built into the Windows XP operating system. The WZC service is designed to dynamically select the wireless network to connect to, based either on your preferences or on the default settings. This includes automatically selecting and connecting to a more preferred wireless network when one becomes available. This feature lets you easily move from your office or home network without first having to reconfigure your IP settings before you can get online.

The problem addressed by SP2 had to do with the fact that in SP1 the WZC service was, by default, configured to use 802.1 x authentications. This authentication process caused the system to drop the wireless connection about every three to five minutes. To avoid this problem 802.1x authentication must be disabled.

                        1. Click Start, point to Connect To, Click Show all connections, and then double-click your wireless network
                        2. On the General tab, click Properties
                        3. Click the Wireless Networks tab
                        4. Under Preferred Networks, click your home network and then click Properties
                        5. Click the Authentication tab, and then clear the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box

Re: Disconnects as soon as I start playing

Well I never ran on WLAN, though my son are via my Router (as explained above) I was the one with the "disconnects" I think this problem is a pretty complex one and its really case by case solutions out there. Your suggestion regarding SP1 might be correct in ham_411's case, but in mine not. I really hope and wish that Dice will fix this in the next patch 1.5 or whatever. I have been reading on a lot of forums and the topic "Disconnected within 10 sec" is on each and every one of them. So it is a pretty widespread problem and there seems to be more then one fix for it...but in some cases its not fixable at all as of yet.

                              Ok last shot...
1: Did you update BPupdate.exe from within the PB folder? if not do!
2: Does your mobo have more then 2 network adaptors (mine do)? if so check if both are switched on and if so switch one off!
3: Did you run a "CLEAN" install of BF2. I mean DELETED the BF2 folder in your Document and Settings folder + ALL! the stuff in Regedit (be sure to save your personal settings 0001, for key settings etc) and ran the FULL! 1.41 Patch ? if not DO! ( I know a pain in the butt)
4: Be SHURE! to update your CHIPSET DRIVERS!
5: Be sure to update your ROUTER SOFTWARE!

                              Running out of options here...
Anyhow i have done all of the above and I am running fine now...big help that is hu :P.
At least see if you have not checked some of the above and try it, better then nothing.
