I went on Amazon to look at BF2 SF as I'm thinking of buying it. While reading the reviews I was alarmed to see that If i were to purchase SF and install I would also have to re-download 1.41. Is this true?

Yes. SF comes with like 1.12 or 1.21 or something like that. So installing that would revert your patch level. Then you reapply 1.41 to be the latest again.

A ton of people have forgotten to repatch after installing SF, it causes shader errors when loading.
Re-apply 1.41 after installing SF, you should have plenty of time will SF installs(its not the quickest thing by any stretch).

Cheers guys, but I seriously don't fancy waiting another 3 hours for 1.41 to download again. I'll stick with what I've got for now! BF2 is so good but so bad at the same time!

When I download the newest patch I always save it to my computer just in case I need to re-install it.

I just clicked 'next' 'continue' 'next' 'continue' 'finish'. May be I have saved it. i'll take a look. Be nice if I did! I NEED THAT L96A1! if I can't fly them then I'll shoot them down instead!

better get in the AA if you want to shoot them down, the L96 wont shoot down a helo or jet

I did shoot down a smoking helo once with the M95 though.......still 2 shots

even if you have to download the patch again, way worth it. do it in the background, you don't have to sit there and watch it... start it just before you go to bed silly! :)

and yes, save the latest patch on your harddrive always. it never hurts.

If it takes you 3 hrs to DL 536 MB, then you are running at roughly at 50 KB/s. So how do you play BF2 online? Your ping would be terrible!!

My guess is that the source you are getting the 1.41 patch sucks and you could find a much better DL site to upload it to you faster. SF is worth buying, don't let a download stop you.

What!?
I have a wireless LAN set up in my house and the router speed is something like 54Mbps. Yet it still only runs at 2.2Mbps giving me a download speed of 240Kbps.
Darn you BT, fix the exchange line!

In this day-n-age having a slow internet connection is unheard of...any time you're downloading a new patch ALWAYS save it for any time you may need it (reinstall or if you had to reinstall windows or whatever). SF is totally worth it, you get more maps and more unlocks for vanilla .

At home, I have dial-up...I live in the boonies, no high speed available here cept Satellite, and screw that.....So I probably have you all beat with crappy connections.... I just downloaded a 26 meg file, 2.5 hours...
