I bought the Booster Pack combo at Best Buy . . .

and now my problems have just begun.

I thought it would be easier to just buy the game booster pack in stores because I'd heard so much about people paying for the game and never getting the EA downloader to work right. So here I am with EuroForce and Armored Fury all conveniently on one DVD disc. I brought it home, downloaded it, and EA asked for my verification code and in-game profile name. Okay, that part was easy.

After all the paperwork, EA's web site says to just pop in the original BF2 CD and start playing.

I put the CD in and my CD rom starts spinning. And spinning. . . And . . . Spinning. . . It sounds like a gas-powered lawn-trimmer on crack-cocaine.

(Still spinning). (I go to make some coffee, check the weather, sew a sweater).

    Still . . . spinning.

Anyway, when I come back, I figure that EA games has destroyed my CD rom, which I wasn't ruling out, because I couldn't even force it to stop spinning. I had to hold down the power button to shut off the computer because nothing responded (but the CDrom was spinning like a fat stripper on greased pole). I reboot, and to experiment with something else, I put in my sister's copy of Sims 2 (which I admit to playing, sometimes :)) It does the same thing - spins and spins but never seems to initiate any kind of auto play or even open the program by me going to "my computer" and clicking on the CD drive. Okay, so I've had various programs interefere with my drives before. In fact, I'm almost used to having programs help themselves to off-limit areas of my computer's registry. (Easy CD-creator killed my last CDROM by adding nasty junk into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key of my registry, which is associated with CDroms and DVDroms of computers). So I fix this by deleting the upper and lower filters from from the said registry entry and rebooting. Success as I expected. I have my CDrom and DVDre-writer drives back and functional. So, I delete BF2 from my computer and try a complete reinstall.

This is the problem I'm stuck on now. The install process gets to the map files (blah something Dalian Plant.zip file) and ERROR. "Battlefield 2 installation failed, try again from the beginning."

Have you ever seen that card that says "Want to know how to keep an idiot busy? Flip this card." And on the opposite side of the card, it says the same thing. Well, this isn't any different. After trying about four or five times and getting the error at the same point of the installation process, I figured that I was wasting my time. I've narrowed down my problems to either (1) there are some very very small traces of BF2 still on my computer which are disrupting a fresh installation of the game, and/or (2) EA has found a sleazy way to get $20 bucks from me. (And more than that if you consider that my $40 base-copy of BF2 is now worthless and incompatible with my computer.) This was a great game IMO, but I had to try my luck with the booster pack, and now I can't even play any of it. Sorry for the long post. Any help is appreciated.

Man, I am sorry to hear your problems. I am sure you have checked to see the discs is clean. Hmm, I really hope that some people here can help. Maybe this should get moved over to the 'support' section.

Damn that was huge ****ing rant bro.

Get to the damn point already and identify what went wrong; you turned your problem into a drama series.

So lets get this straight; while installing the game on the dalian.zip part of installing it the install process stops because of an error.

1st. Check your CD to see if there are any scratches any give us a yes/no answer.
2nd. If it is scratched than that might be your fault; if you wanna get a backup copy you can download one off a torrent site for backup purposes. Run the image off Daemon Tools and it will install like you had the cd right there.

        No scratches.

I was going for a record.

deleting registry keys? other programs like sims don't work? yikes. sounds like somethings amiss here and it probably isn't EA to take the blame.

format/reinstall from the ground(os) up perhaps?

and stop randomly deleting registry keys because your cd/dvd drive doesn't work. yikes.

could also just be a bad cd/dvd drive perhaps?

this thread should totally go in the tech support forum though. nothing to do with EF at all other than you bought it and then this all happened to you.

Yeah, I was really thinking that too. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before a full reinstall. But atleast with a full reinstall the game runs better!

I wonder if the Booster Pack version already has 1.4 on it.

Why didn't you just use the downloader months ago - I didn't have any problems and my experience on this forum is that the guys that did either 1) forgot their login passwords or 2) their ADD didn't allow them to read more than four words before they freaked out and started slamming their keyboards into the wall.

Try manually uninstalling BF2. (Send a message to EA Support on how to do this) Reinstall, and try again. Might work... I'm no expert.

Seriously, just to let you know... I had THAT EXACT ERROR for a while and the reason I had it was because of some scratch smudges on the disk. Luckily I showed my friend and he had a Scratch remover (or something, because it apparently worked) , but after I used that and shined up my disk again, it worked again.

But basically, I had that problem because of scratches on my CD. I say check your disk again because I had THAT EXACT ERROR.

Check the disc case. Does it say CD Rom ONLY on it? if it doesnt and you have two disc drives put it in the OTHER drive. also check your disc to see if it has dalian.zip on it.

You deleting registry keys = your own fault.

I would suggest like above and reformat and stop touching the registry.

I dunno if this will help......................You said that the Booster pack disc was a DVD? Maybe it doesn't work because your version of BF2 is a CD?

LOL, yeah, that is a good point, but based on what he said, I think that it is not reading one of his BF2v CDs now...which it did before. This problem is outside the Booster Pack DVDs.
