fps ruined by 1.41 for me, any other ati98000 players?

2 nights ago before I updated I start a game on a 32 player karkand server and my ATI tray reads 80 frames per second, I patched up to 1.41 last night and when I start a 32 player karkand server my ATI tray reads 31 frames per second! DICE lowered it by 50% with their new patch! I run into 11 fps slideshows when I get into big fights now or when I try to use the SAW then things really hit the ****. Oh well.

nearly everytime you patch the game the gfx settings tend to default to everything high.

load the game, change to your original video settings. exit bf2, delete the bf2 cache folder from my documents and restart the game.

It almost sounds like your video card is overheating (i.e. the fan stopped). Either that or you did not fully uninstall BF2 before applying the patch.

wtf do you guys come from? do you work at pcworld or something?

and fyi, so you dont say stupid things like this again, an overheating video card will cause screen corruption, crashes and eventually death of the video card. NOT lower fps

Excuse me? A while ago the fan on my BFG GeForce 6000GT-OC suddenly stopped (the result of wire being out of place) while I was playing the game "F.E.A.R.". At first the framerate dwindled down from 60 to 0 in a matter of a couple minutes.

The GeForce 6600, as well as many other models, has thermal throttling built in that activates when an excess of heat is threatening the GPU. To save your processor it shuts down the core, which severely limits your acceleration abilities. The screen is just fine though, there are no distortions.

I'm not sure about the ATI 9800, but if it was built in the past few years or so it may have this component-saving technology.

So in other words, go scratch.

asking for help and you act like that?

i have a 9800 pro and it being too hot causes me to receive LOWER fps and lagginess, i immediately put a fan right next to it and bam. everything resumes normally.

i have an x850xt and i noticed absolutely no drop at all in performance, im assuming that you are generalizing that only ATI cards have a performance drop

its not me asking for help.

and as for a fan making your gfx card go faster ahaha BS!!!

just because nvidia have thermal throttling, doesnt mean an OLD 9800 has it too. irrelevant suggestions arent going to help the guy

*edit* omg someone else stabbing in the dark too

                        Hes actually correct.

If your GPU fan isn't spinning for whatever reason the card will clock its self down so that it doesn't overheat. If the fan then for whatever reason started up again the clock speeds would go back to normal.

Edit: Does GPU Thermal Throttling only take place on Nvidia cards? I guess it wouldn't on a 9800, they don't even have temperature monitoring!

a 9800 would just cook itself. ATI X850 series with r480 chips have thermal throttling. ati were lagging behind, but eventually caught up :)

I've had my card forever. Not sure how long but its been a while, i was using a higher quality card, but i had to downgrade(god im poor). as soon as i put it in I was having major fps problems, although i was still able to play. i pulled the gfx card cooler(old as hell also) and it was not spinning, so i got small fan and had it blowing directly on it(the card) and the fps problem was literally gone. then my cooler kicked in magically, so it is going also, but it may not be on the whole time.

im sorry to bring this to your attention O guru of all knowledge.

a gpu will work at the same speed wether its at 0c or at 100c, more heat will not slow it down. there is no connection between them.
like i said before... an overheating video card will cause screen corruption, crashes and eventually death of the video card.

if it has throttling then it will throttle and likely freeze the pc. but the 9800 DOESNT HAVE THROTTLING!!

have a look on google.. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...ics+card&meta=

also funny how on the first page of results its shows several mentioning ati 9800pro's and graphics corruption from overheating, nothing saying "oh my card slowed right down"
