Do Powerful computers have a noticeable advantage!!

I have recently purchased a new computer. My old one was getting on the rusty side(It ran on SDRAM).

Needless to say, I got a fairly decent rig. E6600, 7950 GX2, PN-32 Deluxe MB, 2GB XMS Corsair,....Run the game on full settings 1600X1200 with max fps.

Anyway, I have noticed that when there is a map change on a server, I am one of the first guys in there. If the server doesn't have a long timer set for entry into battle, I can take off and get a head start. This usually allows me to capture Lake on Jalalabad(or whatever it is called), before more than 10 or 12 (out of 64) people are even on the map. I usually wait around for a squad to form up but have just now recently starting taking off solo.

Note: I'm not posting this to start a E-measuring contest, I just want other peoples opinion on this topic.

    *EDIT* spelling LOL

the more powerful the computer - the shorter the load times.

Yes, a nice rig will get you into the game faster, but some people with low graphic settings (like eliminating shadows, etc.) can see things better on the battlefield.

So, a nice rig is both good and bad. I suppose the best would be a fast comp with low graphic settings.

Yeah, I have noticed that I completely stay away from the construction site on Peninsula. The shadows make it impossible to see in that thing.

lol when playing on 16 player maps, it's very noticeable. Most of the time there are no uncaps, so my clan mates and I can drive to their main even before they spawn and cap it. On 64 player there are more uncaps and plus at least one person on the team must have a decent PC.

Especially the 2GB RAM affects this. I have an otherwise not terribly fast system (Pentium M 2 GHz w/Mobile Radeon 9700 128MB) but with 2 GB RAM I'm usually one of the first in.

doesnt it load fast according to your hard drive speed or something? my computer is pretty good (excluding the video card) and im usually the 2nd or 3rd one in. I just hate it when it has a start delay

                    nah everything high,
turn lighting to low,and dynamic light off,and shadows.

this has the same effect(example.sharqi tv station is now lit up like a xmas tree :) )

thats what i use ,great for sniping :)

i believe that the better the g card or the faster the RAM, but of course the clock speed on your CPU

                        In my experience...

                        Ram = Loading
Hard Drive = Verifying Client Data

                        :)

Re: Do Powerful computers have a noticeable advantage!!

Yes it makes a difference. I have run around people with slower systems and stabbed them in the back...

There are two factors: Hard Drive Seek Time & TFR Rate and System Memory. A faster hard drive will load the game faster, but then you have to Verify Cient Data. My 10,00 rpm drive loads the game twice as fast as my old hard drive did. But with only 1 GB of RAM it takes a while to Verify Client Data. I've found that guys with 2 GB of RAM can do this and get in a lot faster than I can. Network latency is not an issue in this observation, as I usually connect to my CLAN server with a ping of less than 20 MS.

(BTW - I have a P4 550 on a 925X motherboard; only one core, but it's blazing fast and hyper-threading @ 3.4 GHz. This yields a lot better performance for single-threaded apps that a slower dual core...)

PS - I think MonMonkMan got it backwards from my observations... but I could the one who's got it backwards...

                            agreed - but not confirmed.

I know about the advantage of low lighting, but if you spend that kind of coin on a PC, would you run ANYTHING on low? I mean, come on, its a small advantage, I have never run anything on low, and I still do ok.
