you might want to try upping you video settings. after i installed the 1.41 patch i had huge black mounds and black hills and ground. i was running terrain @ low. i tried everying and couldn't get it fixed. then i reinstalled the patch and it set all my setting to high. i played and everything was fine. i went back to my old setting and it was back. found out i had to set terrain to med or higher not to have the black mounds. don't know if that's your problem but it worth a try.
