  • To those running the game smoothly on multiplayer:

EDIT: Finally found out the problem and solved it. Check out page 2 for my (personal) solution! Thanks all.

Please post your system specs as well as your internet connection and whether you are on a wireless network or not. If you know it, please state your router brand/model as well.

I'm just trying to determine what is up with my online play with this game. I've been trying to fix the stutter gameplay for as long as I can remember. I've tried alot of tweaks and changes, and nothing seems to work. Today, however, I tried something new. I disabled my router's "SPI Firewall" and it seemed to smooth out the gameplay considerably. But I only tested one server after I did this, and even then, it still came up with the "Problem with your connection" message every couple of minutes.

So please, if there's anyone out there running this game flawlessly and happens to be perusing this forum, please help me (and us) out!

EDIT: I guess it would also be helpful if I post my personal specs as well:
    Windows XP SP2
    Pentium 4 3.2 Northwood
    2x1024 MB OCZ Gold PC3200
    ATI X800 XT 256 MB

    Netgear WGR614 v6 Router
Verizon Online DSL (getting ~1.4 MBits Down, ~300 Up)

Yup I've tried disabling WZC, and the still stutters like crazy online, even when my ping is below 50. I've also tried the pb_sleep command, trying pb_sleep 500 and pb_sleep 20 (with pb_writecfg afterwards). Still no noticeable difference.

          BIG FROWN for me.

I'm starting to think that my internet connection might be at fault here. It's like a fraction of everyone else's speeds. I WOULD get FIOS... If they freakin' offered it in my neighborhood already...

                      Sager laptop
                      Win xp sp2
                      P4 3.4g
                      2G DDR
                      Ati Mobility 9800 256 w/Omega drivers
                      Cable internet

Runs perfect on med, questionable on higher settings.

Have you checked other backgroung programs. they can have the stuttering effect on games as well. Using something like enditall may help. http://www.docsdownloads.com/enditall-1.htm

I also have very few services running.

I use the power user settings and windows runs fast as heck.

                            ihatecheats,

after disabling a bunch of services and select background tasks, I DO think the game runs a bit smoother, but it still keeps hitting me with random stutter and that "problem with your connection" message.

Windows seems faster too after those tweaks, so thanks for that!

                            Any other suggestions? From anyone?
