I normally never come across any errors installing drivers. But I was updating my ati drivers and i came across this error:

Don't know if this helps, but when I updated my catalysts (and failed miserably) I found out the only way to do it was go on the Dell website (I bought my pc from dell) and download it from there - it was a little .exe package that took care of everything on its own. Hope you can do something similar. -

Remember, that which does not kill you, makes you stronger. I had the same crap happen to me. I was stumped for an hour. Finally, I put the original disc that came with the card in and re-installed the original software. The day was saved.
I use "Driver Cleaner" when I change drivers, and I think (in haste) I must have selected the wrong ATI icon to "clean" when Driver Cleaner was up (normally, there are several "ATI" items to choose from in Driver Cleaner, eg. "ATI CCC," etc., while normally I just select plain, ordinary "ATI," then clean).
Incidentally, go to Tweaks R Us and download their tweaked WarCat 6.11 drivers -- they were just put up last night and they're the first to be optimised for BF2. I've installed them and am running them with no problem.
From your post, chances are you know this already and just screwed up like I did as described above, but for future "searches" on this problem, here's a rundown of a clean driver install. This is fairly standard, but as a review (this went like clockwork over about 7 minutes last night) -- go into add/remove programs and use the ATI Uninstall utility to uninstall your Cat drivers. Unplug your modem and then re-boot in Safe mode, and cancel your computer wizard's efforts to find drivers for your "new" hardware. Run Driver Cleaner (free and widely available) and select "ATI" and hit clean. Empty your recycle bin, then re-boot, and again cancel your computer's efforts to find drivers. Install your new drivers.
Your mileage may vary but at this point I then go to \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ and delete everyting under the cache directory. When you fire up a Singleplayer or Multiplayer map, your shaders will be newly optimized again. Shut down BF2 and then defrag your hard drive. This is a tweak from Bf2 Tweak Guide, and it does seem to make things run smoother as well as reduce load times.Comment
