    A noob's Tier unlock question

I'm new to BF2 and don't fully understand the unlock system. I tried searching for like 20 minutes for an answer to this question and came up empty, but it may be because I'm not using the right terminology to define what I'm looking for.

I have an unuse unlock and another coming up shortly and have already unlocked the L85A1 and G3...

    My question is this:

When you unlock a Tier 2, say the G36E, can you still use your tier 1? The F2000 and G36E are great weapons, but I'm not sure I want them if it costs me the SA80 and G3.

I like the knockdown power of the G3, it saves your butt if you know how to quickly put a few shots right on target. And while I know most people think the L85 is a nerf gun, and I know the extremely tight groups of the G36E make it a killer at medium ranges, I don't want to give up the full-auto for those really close in firefights or the precision of the L85's scope. I actually like the L85 better all-around, because even if the gun's spraying everywhere by the 3rd or 4th shot, it's easy to make those first shots count.

I may be worrying about nothing, but I'm tired of getting my butt kicked by G36Es at 50m and need something to compete and need to unlock something or the other sometime soon. Can't always count on headshots with the L85 when your opponet has the drop on you and can put a whole bunch of 3-round bursts on your head in no time.

Rant: This whole problem would be fixed if in the next patch they either make the L85's recoil dispersion less severe or loosen up the G36. It's ridiculous how one-sided things get when people have the ability to put half a magazine right down the line when the poor saps with all the other weapons are spraying wildly after the first round leaves the barrel. On another note, the L85 being a bullpup SHOULD have tighter groups in full auto than it does, since the recoil is more centered and the weapon is more compact. Even if the G36 has recoil management designed in and is a high-grade weapon, it's also a very lightweight weapon with no mass in the shoulder and shouldn't be a tack-driver in rapid fire mode.

Once you unlock a weapon it is yours to use for ever.

can you still use your other unlocks? = yes.
its just like when you have a kit unlocked, but instead of toggling your unlock, you can cycle through them on the kit select screen.

Sorry, but this is unfounded. I've used the L85 many a time (serving member of the British Forces) and it isn't an accurate gun under automatic fire. Bull pup means that the barrel length can be increased without increasing the length of the weapon, making it lighter, smaller and more accurate in single shot mode. Under sustained automatic fire, the weight imbalance of the weapon will recoil shots mainly up and to the right (if held correctly) after the first two rounds, then all over afterwards. There is not one assault rifle in the world that remains accurate after the first three rounds. Hence the Americans changed the M16 full auto into the three-round-burst M16A2.

No idea why the British insist on full auto, probably to do with money saving as our main squad assault weapon is the LSW, which has a longer barrel then the L85A1/2, bi pod and rear hand grip.

Hmm this is very interesting though, contradicts me lol

A2 upgraded versions also have a higher muzzle velocity. The AK-101 won on reliability on multiple terrain, weather and climatic scenarios. The ranks in the test were:

        1. SA80
        2. G36E
        3. M16 family
        4. AK-101
        5. FAMAS G2

I realise the L85 isn't superb platform, I was just saying that it should be modeled a lot better than it is, and shouldn't be the gun with the absolute worst rapid-fire in the game. It's like they puposely chose to model it horrible. And I wonder why the would model the L85 with so much less control than the F2000, the other bullpup. They use the same cartrige, same layout, and the L85 I believe has more weight to it. It shouldn't be as crappy as it is portrayed. It's just kinda pathetic that the G36 can level enemies with rapid fire at 100m and the L85 is useless in full auto past 2 feet.

Still, I wonder what study it was that showed it was superior to other weapons? I was under the impression that most arsenal L85s had poor-grade barrels, especially compared to G36 series weaopns. And saying "M16 Family" is kinda broad when comparing. I've shot some AR15 variants that were horrible, and some that had 3/4 MOA accuracy. And I'm also questioning how they found that a bullpup could be reloaded quicker than a conventional-design weapon... I don't think you should be too concerned that the source contradicts you, I think it's a little padded by an L85 enthusiast.

There is not one assault rifle in the world that remains accurate after the first three rounds.
I don't think there are any standard-issue weapons that can do it, but I've heard of some prototypes by H&K that utilize some of the systems that were first developed in the G11 to allow 4 and 5 round bursts that keep impressive groups. But that's beside the point.

Hence the Americans changed the M16 full auto into the three-round-burst M16A2.
Well, that and when yahoos get a full-auto weapon in their hands, they tend to empty magazines in a hurry. But I suspect one reason the SA80 is full auto (like the M4) is to take advantage of its manuverabilty in CQB. Get close enough and full auto becomes useful. I also know British squadies are trained a lot better than your average American GI and are probably trained to be proficient with controlled bursts. British troops and American Spec ops probably don't need 3-round burst and would actually be disadvantaged by it, hence they use full-auto variants and shoot them controlled, 1 and 2 rounds at a time with more careful, aimed fire.

Ah well, thanks for the replies. I'm off to go unlock some more weapons.
