    been playing for a bit, and getting a little better, but...

    No matter what I do I can't seem to get around some of these guys with the perfect aim. I try not to forget my tactics, I try to take cover then change weapons, lay down suppressant fire so that I can move from one spot to another, but jeez sometimes these guys just nail me with one shot. I can't believe it at times. lol .. I am currently playing just the bf2, no booster pack or anything.. I also have the special forces installed, but not in that game atm.

    Does anyone have any other tips as to when you will get to unlock some of these weapons, and how does the promotion in rank work.. by kills, by flags captured>? ..

    I am just continuing to play until my aim gets better, I am getting a little better, just need to keep practicing. I tend to play the medic, so that I can help guys out if they die, or are low on strength.

    Aiming in BF2 is something one really needs to get used to over games like Quake and even Counter-Strike, but once you get you realize there are shots you can make and those you can't, how ranging works and how to fire properly and it becomes second nature and very satisfying when you pull off some crazy long range .50 cal shot.

    Basically always remember that you should shot in bursts, or even single fire if someone is far away. Always go prone to fire, always use the iron sights, don't fire without doing that unless he's right in front of you...

    When firing in a burst, always point at the base of the head of your target, and let a burst go, nearly all bullets should hit your target. This is because the rifle starts to kick up immediately, so aiming directly at the head means most of your burst will be wasted. I use the G3 in this way. For Spec Ops it's a bit different, go prone, aim at the base of the head and tap out your shots...

    It is advisable to pull the weapon down when you burst for a long time with Support, PKM works nicely this way, burst, pull down, burst pull down. Previously you could just prone and tap out shots like a sniper rifle.

    Snipers is something far more difficult to master, and that comes much later when you are more confident with the game. Always look for unexpected avenues of fire, try to avoid usual sniper spots (it's suicidal someone will notice you quickly), always try to get a HS, learn to fire at moving targets but ONLY take a shot when you know you will make it, and you know he will die and not spot you.

    Medic is the best way to start off the game and learning to use the M16 or AK-101. A great way to boost up in rank, which is based on your cumulative score off each round. Once you rank up, the best thing to unlock is the L85, then the G3 for the medic... after that it's really up to you...

        Also, always join squads and watch what the people in your squad do. Learn their movements, and then you'll also learn the likely spots that the enemy will come at you.

        Have a look at http://ubar.bf2s.com/ranks.php to see how many points you require for each rank, and also what rank unlocks are available. Another tip for getting used to unlock before you get them is to pick up dead peoples kits and chances are you'll find a gun you've not used before.

        As for what you get points wise, it goes as follows:

        Kill = 2
        Kill damage assist = 1
        Revive = 2
        Healing = 1
        Ammo giving point = 1
        Repair point = 1
        Blowing up enemy assets ie uav etc = 1
        Flag neutralise/cap = 2
        Flag neutralise/cap assist = 1
        Driever kill assis (when someone in your vehicle kills someone) = 1
        Driver special ability assist (when someone in your vehicle gets an ammo point etc) = 1

        Most of all, don't fret if you get owned, just concentrate on having fun!

          I think thats the best piece of advice given in this thread! If your not enjoying yourself then something is wrong, take a break and come back. It can all change like that!

            I've found it extremely useful to practice on Single Player against bots, to get a better feel for how each weapon fires. On the easiest mode, the only bots that can even kill you are the Engineers or AT with shotguns. Helps to have live targets that move around a little, so you can get a better grasp of your weapon, without worrying about getting killed because you weren't fast as heck on the trigger.

              If your target is standing upright I'd recommend aiming dead center on the upper to mid chest region. This is a good mix between reliability and killing speed (especially with a burst fire weapon). The chest is an easy target that yields high and reliable damage (large hit box) but as a bonus is also close enough to the head where when the recoil or deviation kicks in you stand stand a fair chance of getting a headshot. Of course if your target is proned it's headshot all the way.

                All tips and hints aside, even after 1.5 years or so of playing BF2, I will have periods in the game where I can't poke my head up without having it shot off.

                There's nothing at times you can do about this. That's just the way it is.
