Battlefield 2 Anti Aliasing problem

Hi,

First of all i am new on this forum but i have a question:

I have a problem with the anti aliasing settings of bf2.
I can play with all of my videosettings on the highest possible but i cant control the AA settings in the control panel of bf2.
Every time when i want to set it on x6 AA or less and press aply it just turns back to AA off.
By the way my graphics card is an asus x850xt pe (agp).
My graphic card must handle anti aliasing i suppose.
I have searched on the internet for a while but i cant find anything about my problem.
I hope somebody can help me with my problem.

hmm...doesnt it ask u to restart the game when u cahnge ur AA settings?

what u can try doing is going
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001
double click on video.con (or open it with notepad) and if u want 2x AA u can hhave it say

VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples

then save and try bf2.

Yes, it happens all the time on ATI cards. Happened to me as well when I had an x700 card.

What I did with catalyst(ATI control panel) is set AA to 'application controlled' and apply your settngs not sure what it said exactly, but kinda like that. Open BF2, set AA in video options to what ever you like, but stick with 2xAA or 4xAA atm. Load a map and you encounter the message 'optimizing bla bla for best performance bla bla...' More likely, after you load the map, you still won't have AA. Now, Quit BF2, open again see if AA settings didn't change, load a map.

You may have AA at this point, if not yet. go to BF2 menu, make sure AA is set to something if not, set it to something, apply, quit BF2 and restart computer. Then try Bf2, more likely, it should work.

Disable Catalyst A.I., it should stop the problem.

Hi,

I know that i must restart the game.
But it's strange when i start bf2 from scratch on my desktop and go to videosettings and and choose x2 AA or whatever and press aply it switches back to AA off right away.

Im gonna try the three things you guys advised me and i will let you know.

Go into your Calasyt control panel and turn it on.

No....actually you go into CCC and turn is to APPLICATION CONTROLLED

Ok... I did the following things:

In catalyst control panel set everything to default and let the application decide.
AA automatically chooses x6AA maximun when i turn on let the application decide.
Start BF2 from scratch and go to video settings.
Tryed to turn on x2AA or whatever in the videosettings but nothin worked.
When i press apply it immediately turns back to off.
It says you have to restart to use this settings what i did.
Loaded a new game and i saw no improvements.
And it just stays on AA off.
It is really pissing me off now.

Im gonna try what @ConscriptVirus advised me that is an option still left.

Anyone got other suggestions???

many early models of ATI's run in AGP slot.
the AGP slot is 100% integretated. It could just be that your card does not support aa.

Thanks , that is the only solution that works for me.

I can now play BF2 in the highest possible settings with x6 AA.

Bit it's strange that i cant change AA in the BF2 control center.

I had the same problem and I was able to fix it. For some reason if your AA on your desktop is off, BF2 won't turn it on. All you have to do is just turn AA on, on your desktop. Let me know if that helps you.

You made it sound like AGP is sooo ancient... Just four or more years ago, you'll no longer find any new ATI agp card that doesn't support AA. Sorry, but AGP guys got long razor sharp teeth too and doesn't like hearing false information as well.

Anyway, I've always found CCC buggy. Why don't ATI copy nvidia's forceware drivers? In fact it's just one reason I shy from ATI products, is because of CCC. ATI seems better but the software support puts it down.

I had the same problem with my 7800gtx and it was because I didnt have the latest driver
