    Please Help!!!!!

I have been trying to play BF2 on my laptop for a few weeks now. When I go to join a game it gets me all the way up to the screen where you select your weapon and spawn point. As soon as I hit join game, I get the " there is a problem with you connection" message. It doesn't matter what my ping is, I get the message all the time.

I am using wireless but I get the same thing when I connect to my router with my ethernet cable. I have installed the patch and even went as far as uninstalling the game and re-installing it....nothing different.

    I am using a Dell Inspiron 600
    1.5 GHZ processor
    1.5 GIG of RAM
128 MB ATI Radeon Graphics card

According to the Geek Squad at Best Buy nothing wrong with thw computer. Can someone please help me if this problem has been fixed!!! HELP!!!!!

    Re: Please Help!!!!!

Bro, uninstall BF2 completely and re-install it. That should fix the problem because it did for me. Same thing used to happen. Go here to the official EA website and follow the simple directions.

      Re: Please Help!!!!!

I already did that four times and nothing has changed. I even uninstalled the patch and reinstalled that thinking maybe it was bad somehow. I have disabled EAX and set the sound to low and also disabled the VOIP because i heard that was the problem for one guy.

I have tried nearly everything and nothing has worked...have I wasted my time with this game??

      Any help would be great...THANKS!!

Just a shot in the dark however have you updated your ati drivers? It shouldn't have anything to do with connection problems however I have seen some weirder stuff happen.

              Re: Please Help!!!!!

MrJibbs.....sounds like you have background Applications running!!! You need to turn off any Spyware software and Antivirus software that runs in the background. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and get into taskmanager....then turn off any Process that you really don'nt need. I used to get kicked all the time, when my Antivirus program would check in with Symantec server. Also Punk Buster is notorious for making you connection, so you might want to download the latest Punkbuster Software and install it. Finally there is a section already in the forum on how to make PunkBuster scan less frequently, so read up on that.

              Hope this helps!

Oh, another thought....u might want to up to 2 Gig of RAM

              Keep on Sniping!!!!

Hey Cloaker....some of us BF2ers are Geek Squad Agents, and we post in this forum quite frequently, so please do not bash the Geek Squad!! Yes, some agents know more than others when it comes to gaming rigs, and those of us that do, can be quite helpful.

                Re: Please Help!!!!!

OK...I questioned the geek squad about replacing my processor. When asked why I wanted to I told him what was going on, thinking that my processor wasn't fast enough to keep up with the game. After he thought about it for a moment and explaining single player works fine, he told me it wasn't the processor. I didn't go there in hopes they would be able to help me with the game problems.

As for the backround applications, I have turned all that stuff off. I will try the new version of punkbuster and see if that helps..Thanks!!

                    Re: Please Help!!!!!

                    try this:
Problem - Lag or Constant Disconnects from the Sever
                    Cause - System Dependant
                    Fix
                    - Since this is system dependant or could be cause by several issues, i will list possible fixes.

                    1. If running a Dual Core processor, load up Battlefield 2, press alt-tab to go to your desktop. Open up task Manger by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL Once! Then right click on BF2.exe and set its Affinity to 0, Basically this tells it to use only processor 0, not 0 and 1.

                    2. Go to your BF2 Audio options, and disable VOIP. This can help in some cases.

                    3. Run Adware/Spyware Scans on your PC to remove unwanted software running in the background. Recommended tools for this are;
                    Adaware
                    Spyboy : Search & Destroy
                    Windows Defender
                    Spyware Blaster

                    4. Check your firewalls are not the cause of the problem. Try disabling them such as Windows Firewall, Zone-alarm, and ones inbuilt into Anti-Virus programs. You could also try disabling your Anti-Virus as well to see if it increases performance. This should only be done as a test to see if it helps and that if the Firewall/Anti-Virus is the cause of the problem, once you have tried it remember to turn your firewall/anti-virus back on.

                    5. If on a Wireless router try plugging it directly into the internet, to see if your lag is been cause by a bad router or interference.

                    6. In BF2 Audio Options, try running software mode instead of hardware mode.

                    7. if on a wireless connection this may make it better/worse, or do no change.
Once a connection is established go to run and type "services.msc". Scroll down until you see "Wireless Zero Configuration" and click stop.

                    8. Try updating PunkBuster, Use the program, pbsetup, found at this website to update Punkbuster
theres more and its from the sticky in this section of the forums like community tech faq (v7)

Can I get an extended warranty with that? :)

Back on topic, 1.5 ghz < system requirements for BF2.
