    no sound in BF2

OK, game and sound were working fine.
Got a new graphics card (BFG 7800gs).
    Game worked (even better).
I started tweaking/OC'ing the system and graphics card, eventually system crashed.
Cleared the CMOS, fixed my bios back up, reset all OC settings to defaults.

Now, for some reason I don't have sound in the menu or game anymore. I startup it gives me the 'Welcome to battle', but everythings quiet after that.
Everything else in windows and other games seems fine, no sound issues. I loaded the latest realtec drivers, no change. I made sure onboard sound was enabled in BIOS.

    Heres system specs:
Abit AV8, AMD 64 3200+ (winchester, amd cooler)
    2x 512mb Corsair xms 3200 or so
    BFG 7800GS
    Enermax 495 silentake psu
    2x maxtor 200gb sata150
    1x seagate 200gb IDE
    WinXP pro

Any tips or advice? where should I look?
    Thanks!

Dude, uninstalling is the best way to go because it resolves a lot of issue. I overclock mine via ntune and bios and it crashed. Had to reset by taking out the motherboard battery and then putting it back in. Uninstall and i am 90% sure that it should work fine. Go here:

When you cleared your CMOS, did you set back to default?
OC'ing and editing other system specs, can alter things you are not aware of.
          Go into:
Start>Control Panel> See basic info about your pc> device manager> and see if your pc has recognized any new software.
          IE:sound card etc.

In your sound options, try unchecking the EAX option.

When I cleared cmos I used te jumper to do it. aftert that I ran under 'failsafe settings' and subsequently 'optimized settings'.
I've been in the Hardware Manager, everything seems to be recognized and funtioning properly, according to the PC.

In BF2 options, I've tried checking and unchecking all the options.
Also, under Audio Setting - Audio Renderer: it's set to AUDIOSETTINGS_ instead of software, hardware, XFX or whatever. Whenever I change that it says your hardware is incompatible with settings blah blah...

Yes, music and movies play fine, COD plays fine (with sound), and windows makes all the normal noises one would expect.

Looking in the device manager, everything looks fairly normal. I did notice one thing that might be of intrest though, theres a 'Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA' which I installed from ABIT, and a 'Legacy Audio Drivers' which I'm not sure about. Is that just a controler for the older ports or does it actually have something to do with the audio?

uninstall or move the battlefield folder from your My Documents. That is where the corruption lies. Next time you go in game, that folder will be recreated and you'll probably have sound back. It wouldn't have been uninstalled when you did the big uninstall reinstall.

You will need to know your EA and Game password if you do this

I followed the manual uninstall instructions posted above, the first step was erasing that folder. I'll try it again.

EDIT: your right, that fixed it. Thanks!!
