Joystick issue

I seem to have a problem with my joystick. This is the problem, at first the joystick remains centered with a springy thing or something(i.e. when you move the joystick to the left and release it, the joystick springs back to the center) But when i start a game, the joystick seems to lose its springs and would not remain centered(i.e. i move it to the left and it stays left). I don't not know what is wrong and i hope someone would help me.

it sounds very broken, can you not take the screws out of the bottom and have a look to see if somethings split or worn out?

The problem is that if i start up my com and not launch any games, the joystick remains centred so that it always springs back to the centre regardless of which direction you pull it. However, the problem arises when i launch a game. The momment the game is launched, the joystick would lose its ability to centre itself causing the joystick to lean in one direction.

Have you tried calibrating it ?

When launching a game does it launch any profiles for games that may differ from the one you use default?

And as {RF}TFS Said have you tried calibrating it?

Yes, I calibrated it before but the problem is that when I launch a game, be it LOMAC or BF2, the joystick loses its loses its ability to stay centred. However, if i do not launch any games, the joystick will stay centred.
