Have you ever played CS? So what u sayin is that the configs that were available everywhere were illegal... becuz they gave an unfair advantage. Right?
The fact everyone can get this "unfair" advantage, makes it fair.

By the way I didn't understand completely what this command does.

      Re: This legal?

the command helps sync your ping with the servers hitbox. Instead of you missing because of lag, your shots hit since you are synced. You have to adjust the setting according to your ping to the server. Pick servers you play on and adjust it accordingly. Those that have been banned for using it have actually been banned for using a macros not for using the in game command, The Macros was banned by PB not the comand itself.

However, I would check with the server admin, Evenbalance, PSB, and PBB before using it on a server.

      Does that make it clearer?

So if I go into a server and my ping is 37, I change it to 37?

if you have to post it on a forum cuz you cant tell if its illegal or not, its probably not even worth trying it

I tested it just now and its pretty freakin awesome I would say. You just aim exactly where the chopper is (usually the middle) and it blows em up. Places where I would aim before now actually hit. Especially the Z8, which is tricky.

If you have a good understanding of the hitboxes prior to this trick, then this will screw you up royally, as those shots wont hit anymore.

                  Re: This legal?

I think there is a little confusion going on here about the user configurable commands. First, these only effect how your computer displays things and interacts with the game server. This does not alter the behavior of the game itself. Second, there are actaully three commands that I've found that noticeably impact how well the game plays. I will list them here:

                  SettingsManager.U32Set GSInterpolationTime (Default is 1200)
                  SettingsManager.U32Set GSExtrapolationTime (Default 100)
                  SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation (Default 0.1)

These commands set local variables which can customize how the engine works on your computer. The current defaults are set such that it does not put a huge computational burdon on your computer. For the first two, the lower the value the more accurately the game will display things--hence chopper hits are hits. Though, decreasing their value significantly will bring your copy of the game to a standstill. The last command sets a variable which tries to correct for your ping to a server where 0.1 would be 100 ms. If your ping to the server is 50 ms set it to 0.05, etc.

Hopefully this is useful. For most, this is a trivial change which will not effect how you play the game. For extremely competitive players--such as those of us who came from the counterstrike world--these settings make a world of difference.

Lastly, I'd like to credit the BF2s.com forums for these discoveries. That is where I learned about them first.

                        Re: This legal?

It seems like most of you have never heard the term hit-box before. A hit-box is the invisible lining or "box" that calculates the damage done to the vehicle when it recieves hits, hence the name "hit-box". Here's an example of a hitbox:

The hit-box can vary greatly from the actual model of the player or vehicle and it is the hit-box that determines the damage done on the player/vehicle, not the model itself. The problem is that when playing online, the hit-box will lag behind the model of the player/vehicle, which gets progressively worse the higher your ping gets. This is especially evident with TV guided missiles vs. plane and helo hit-boxes. At any ping over 30 the hit-boxes will lag because of BF2's ****ty net-code, so when you hit the front of the heli model, you're actually completely missing the hit-box. The solution to this is to aim at the tail of helicopters while they are in flight. It'll look like you're just missing the heli or hitting the tail end of it, when in reality you are getting a direct hit on the nose of the hit-box.

I haven't tried it out myself but one of two things will likely happen:

                        1) It's some type of command that customizes your hit-box and net-code, making it adjust better to the lag. In CSS the net-code tries to auto correct for lag and people can customize their own settings depending on what their ping to the server is in order to reduce the lag between models and hit-boxes. I'm sure BF2 has somewhat of a similar system however I didn't realise you could customize it like in CSS. If this is indeed what it does then it IS NOT a cheat and IS legal.

                        OR MORE LIKELY

                        2) It is some kind of prank to fool noobs into typing it in their console that will somehow ruin or close their game. Classic examples such as "alt-f4 for cheat menu" or "type quit_fog in console to have no fog hack" come to mind.

I tryed it ingame, 400 didnt make a difference then I got pissed off and left because I couldnt get the heli

It doesnt quit your game or anything.

Did you even take the time to look @ the user configurable file before typing this? Seriously, look @ the file, all of the variables exist. The commands just set them.

Nice to know there are experts like you around who don't even need to try things before shooting them down.
