huge lag on new alienware aurora laptop

hi guys, i got me some problems after the 1.4 patch for bf2.
seems like im getting massive lag.
when i load the game, it takes forever to get to the "join game" button, when i press that button, it takes 30-40 secs to see the load screen (kit, squad).
then once i get into the game i get ridiculous fps, usually going from 80-90 down to 20 in a split second - doesnt matter if im in battle or walking about in the middle of nowhere.
ive also noticed that my ping goes anywhere from 60-odd to 6-700 with a second or two, then back down again. this happens constantly, ive also noticed it while viewing server pings whilst looking for a server to join, i refresh the list and theyve changed dramatically again.

shutting down bf2 also takes forever- up to 90 seconds to get back to a working desktop.

ive tried reinstalling everything a couple of times but theres no difference.
my video settings are set to high but that shouldnt be the problem. all my other games run on high including 2142- that has a 70+fps in massive battles.
it seems i only get this problem in bf2.
    any ideas?
    this is driving me nuts.

p.s. - no other progs - filesharing etc. running in the background. - clean install of xp (factory install + drivers)

    cheers

        aurora laptops are horrible bud.
its a laptop so the preformance is reduced by alot of a pc.
why did you buy a aurora laptop?

there is no reason this laptop shouldnt play bf2 when it played it perfectly well previously to the 1.4 update.
went for a laptop because my tower was tooo big and noisy, took up too much space and was taking too much power.
as i said in my previous post, im running 2142 70+fps in firefights.
          cheers

hm well that drive is only a 5400 rpm which could cause slower load times, but it almost sounds like a driver issue. try clearing out your bf2 cache.

um ya, it stores all the textures and stuff bf2 needs to load up on every map. what do you think it does?

if your having framerate problems, try deleting your bf2 cache so it will create new geometries.
