My dad had a co-worker who had recently gotten back from Iraq and they started talking about games and stuff, so my dad asked if he had ever heard of BF2, and apparently they had a small room in their base were they would play BF2 when they had some free time . Thought that was kinda cool.
I do some work in the modeling and simulations area and these games are quite often evaluated for training value. Due to the cost of developing simulations the Army does look at 'off-the-shelf' (or OTS lol) software to see if it can be used for training.
I would say that in a controlled environment BF 2 could be useful for practicing maneuver, the value of suppressive fire, etc.
Today's soldier is 'game savvy' and using software like this may help keep his attention while you're teaching.
