    IF i upgrade from 6600GT to 7900GT...

Will there be a big difference in graphics and smoothness?

I would highly suggest getting another GB of RAM before a gfx card upgrade. It makes a world of a difference in gameplay.

I would upgrade my ram but i only have 2 slots and there are currently 2x512s in tehre and to upgrade to 2GB would mean getting rid of them, and having to buy pc2 5100 ram, which is very rare. That is the kind i have in there nnow so is it the kind i have to buy?

And by the wat Id probably be getting both as part of christmas so how about this:

      Would it run a lot better on P4 3ghz2GB ram 7900GT 256mb?

THis is the only game i have that i really care about graphics on, because sometimes i cant tell ppl apart from bushes due to low resolution.

Yes it will run much better. But I'd upgrade the RAM as 1GB won't be able to process the new throughput from your GFX card as quick and you'll get random moments of a split second freeze in game.

Have to agree with the rest of you, I have the Nvidia Geforce 7900GTX (512MB) and a dual core proc as well, but started out with one 1GB of ram playing BF2, not a good thing.. Ever since I upgraded to 2GB I have zero issues, always the first on the map and never any GFX performance drops..

btw: great avatars Munk and Bloodsport :)

i only have an x850pe but with 3 gigs of ram i run all high settings no problem, never drop below 60-70 fps

x850xtpe is about equivalent to 7800gt i think

Get 2GB ram and a good PSU and the 7900GT will laugh at BF2...
Seriously, i just got a 7950GT and it munches BF2 for breakfast lol
All high at 80+ FPS in full on 64 server battles

I must stress a good PSU is a must, dont know about the 7900 but my 7950GT is a huge card and needs 2 power supplies!

Go for it though mate, everything high at 80+FPS
Cant get better at the mo, apart from silly priced DX10 cards!

I have 2 x 7900 GTs, Intel dual core 2.13ghz, 2 gig RAM, and this is a brand new Alienware desktop i bought about 3 weeks ago, and my BF2 now crashed after 5 minutes of gameplay, crashes back to desktop!!!!

I never had this with my old machine, ran it on low settings with a 9800 pro, and it was fine, never crashed. This brand new machine costingme just under 2 grand crashed every 5 minutes, on medium settings!!!!!

                            Someone please please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is really not what i had in mind when splashin out that cash....

The system checks Alienware do before they ship the machines gives this:

                            Game Tests
                            3DMark Score: 8,304.00 3DMarks

                            GT1 - Return To Proxycon: 36.92 FPS

                            GT2 - Firefly Forest: 25.14 FPS

                            GT3 - Canyon Flight: 39.49 FPS

                            CPU Tests
                            CPU Score: 7,297.00 CPUMarks

                            CPU Test 1: 3.94 FPS

                            CPU Test 2: 6.00 FPS

                            Doom 3

                            Doom 3: 140.3 fps

Any input would be very helpful. I reinstalled bf2, 1.4 in full, deleted my Kaspersky antivirus, tried the settings on Low quality and the damn thing still crashing to desktop.
