Re: Maps popularity analysis with tables (very bored and annoyed)
cool stats. Appreciate you taking the time to dig them out. In this case, the numbers that I notice are how many of the servers with the "popular" maps are still empty. 2/3rds of the ones playing Karkand at that time were empty and 78% of the ones playing Jalalabad were empty as well. It points out a couple of things 1) there are too many servers idling and we might be better off if some of them went away. 2) A diversity of maps might actually get you more consistent activity on your server from those players who aren't looking to play one thing over and over and over again.
I know that when I am searching for a server to play on (when not playing on our clan server of course), I have an "Anything But Karkand" rule. Well, it's not quite that, but there a couple of maps that I dismiss playing without even thinking, like Cleansweep.
It's not that I don't like the Karkand - I do, and I usually do well on it, but I want some variety. Lately, I have been actively searching for servers playing Songhua. 16 player size IO is a blast even if it is sometimes very quick, and 32 player size with vehicles is a lot of fun as well. I like it because it is the only map where you can use vegetation to hide your movement and escape from armor and infantry fire. Every other map you are crossing open ground where you can be run down by vehicles as well. Songhua has woods, water, and hills to use :)
Our server (shameless plug) is running single rounds, no time limit, of everything but Cleansweep, Wake and Zatar. Most are 32 player size, but on a couple we drop to a 16 player size and I think we go to a 64 player size on a map or two as well. We also try to mix it up so that you don't get a whole slew of air maps (for example) all in a row. Once we get it started, it usually stays relatively full for for the night although we do get a few people who pop in for just an air map and then disappear. I would like to see more servers adopted that approach instead of the 24/7 urban maps.

) to fetch information from Game-Monitor (stupid GM put something to try to block automated scripts, had to lose time circumventing it).
