I am thinking of geting a eVGA 7900gt or a 7950gt. Is there a big difference outher then one is 256 and the 512? Or should i wait for the dx10 cards.

Re: Graphics card decision
I just got a 7950GT 512MB and it eats BF2 for breakfast. I have cranked every setting to high and i get 80+ FPS in intence battles
The 7950GT is just a newer version of the 7900GT, so probably no real difference.
If your buying a new card just for BF2 then i would deffinetly recommend the 7950GT , as ive said it munches through it like a hot knife through butter.
BUT if your thinking about new games coming out like crysis then you might want to wait (only if have lots of cash)!
But my guess is, the card will be up for the job for a long time to come...
It is after all a 'high' end card

Thanks for the comment
. Would the dx10 cards price fall down to the price of a 7950 any time soon after ther released? And if i could get a dx10 card could i still play dx9 games like BF2?

Re: Graphics card decision
DX10 cards will be VERY pricey for some time to come! They not even out yet lol
If i were you i would go get a 7950GT or a 7900GT unless you are willing to pay £600 for a DX10 card! And remember you will ultimatly be a beta tester.
Its all down to individual choice.. If you have LOTS of money wait for DX10, if not get a GREAT DX9 card (7950GT) for a good price now, which will play games for a long time to come.
New games coming in 2007 are in no way just gonna support DX10, DX9 has a long life yet!

Re: Graphics card decision
Okay the 7950 is fine. The difference between the 7900 and the 7950 isn't much. 7950 will have slightly higher speeds and the 512MB does make a difference, games like GRAW require 512MB of VRAM to run it maxed.
Also, see if you can get the 7900 GTO, its an amazing card. It is better then the 7950 GT and I got it for the same price new, anyway both cards will max out all your games so you don't need to worry. 2GB RAM is a must of BF2 though.
Check your power supply, make sure you have 450W at a min, I'd go for a 500W though. Your mobo is PCI-E as well isn't it?
DX10 cards aren't long away, however they are rumoured here to be up at £500 for the 8800 GTX and the 8800 GT nto far behind at £400. For me I'd wait for the 3rd or even 4th line of DX10 cards. Reason being is that they will be cheaper and more advanced with the DX10 technology.Comment
