Hey, New here...could use some help....

    Hey everyone!
this is my first thread and i thought maybe i could get some of my questions answered here....
i am new to the whole online gaming and i want to become involved in playing Battlefield 2 online, but am not sure how to do so...do i need to download a software in order to connect to different servers??? how do i connect to a server so i can play online against others who are online???
also my second and last question is, i currently have a dv9000t with 2 Ghz Dual Core 2 processor with 2GB ram and 512MB Nvidia Go 7600 graphic card...i am wondering if this will be capable of playing BF2 at full settings when playing online...???
yeah, mainly i want to know how to play online and what steps i have to take to be able to do so...
your answers and advice is always appreciated
    thanks alot guys!

Its very simple TBH Max, no software is needed though its advisable to download the 1.4 patch which has various adjustments to ingame things and new maps. I'm sure someone will provide a link. Just create an online account and click the multiplayer tab. A list of servers will appear. Click the one with the map you want to play and then click join server. Its that simple really.

    Have fun!

Well okay, not THAT simple. Although Jay_C has been kind enough to alert you to the series of button press you need to accomplish first, he has yet to warn you of the mental trauma awaiting you if unprepared.

First rule of online gaming: You suck and will be told so over and over and over again.
Second rule of online gaming: Everyone else sucks and you will be motivated to tell them over and over and over again.
Third rule of online gaming: Don't care what anyone thinks of you. Learn to enjoy the game for what it is and don't take anything personally.

That said, make sure you are aware that you are really playing against live people on the other end. They are not robots without feelings/brains. Respect them like you would people you hang out with in real life.

Also, read the ROE. It's the most common oversight of newer BF2 players.

      :)

      Good luck!

No your making it sound far too complicated lol. When you load up BF2 you will see the EA bit, then a short movie, yes? after that it takes you to a little box. You click the create account button, and type in a nickname (if its already taken they will say and you choose another), then you type your password and your done. Click login and then click the multiplayer tab at the top. You can play on any server you like, there are 100s with different maps and modes (infantry only)

do you have the 1.4 patch? that is very important.

P.s Good advice ED, you have to have a hard skin to play online games. You will meet some really nice guys but alot of jerks. Dont take anything personally and just enjoy the game!

Fourth rule of online gaming: Use the search button

Okay, okay, maybe that's more the First rule of online forums.

I'm feeling kind this morning though:

Right, Online games are not like your regular console games (PS2, XBOX etc..)
The producers of the game (in this case DICE) keep adding bits to the game once its produced. Like adding new maps or adjustments to guns and vechiles. It basically keeps the game fresh and keeps people buying and playing it, even after being out for months and months (something that doesn't happen with console games) all patches can be downloaded for free. They add a patch about once every couple of months and the most recent is 1.4. I will post a link shortly of where you can get it.
You can find different servers if your located in Japan, Iceland, turkey, america, england, anywhere in the world.
Yes internet connection does matter but aslong as your on broadband it shouldn't matter, (it will if your on dail up)
With my point about the servers. If you live in America it is better to play on american servers. This is because your PING will be lower. Without getting too complicated it will mean the game will play better. But i sometimes play in USA servers and i'm in the UK.

if you have any other questions please ask. :)

sounds like ur gonna have fun for a while now max. enjoy it
u'll first start off feeling like a small ant in a huge area especially if u join 64 player servers, sooner or later, you will become used to the game and not feel like an ant but more like a lion. after that, you will feel like the hunter, slaying the lion and dragons. then ppl tend to become uber l33t hAx0rrz and get thier stats swiped. try not to do that. and plz dont rape the uncaps in servers, saves u getting banns and gives u better gaming ethics.
