  • Good video card (AUS)

    Hey everyone,

I've done a search but I'm not sure if the cards will be suitable for my system...

I'm looking for a video card for my comp:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT (3 Ghz)
Memory: 503MB (from My Computer info)

Right now I've got inboard graphics and BF2 will not run. My budget is around AU$120. Can you recommend a good card?

    Thx,
    Rhys

depends....i would go for a 6600gt since theyre pretty cheap...and if u could add in some extra bucks to ur budget, u could go for a 7600gt, but if u do get a 7600gt, u wont be able to play on med/high settings because with only 503mb of memory, ull stutter alot

I agree with ConscriptVirus about getting a bigger ram. I would advice at least matched 2 x 512 RAM = 1024 DDR running in dual channel mode to get rid of stuttering at high video settings. You must also find out if you could disable your onboard video card, otherwise, an upgrade would be useless.

For video cards, I would advice, nvidia GF 7300GT. It should be cheaper than 6600GT, but will give you better perfomance and nearly maxed out eyecandy in BF2. But if you play other games or not so 'eye candy' gamer, the 6600GT might give you better performance.

I think 6600gt or 7600 series would be good but i think i disagree with dtaker about the 7300gt. It has a 7 in its title but it is the diet coke of gfx cards.

Do you recommend any particular brand of RAM? I'm not familiar with RAM terminology, so am I looking for DDR2 RAM?

I'm looking at a 7300GT, but I noticed some ATI Radeon cards (mainly the 9550). Are these any good?

I'm looking at 256MB cards. Please tell me if this is enough memory.

          Thx,
          Rhys

P.S. Is there any way of finding out what memory cards I have in my system without pulling them out?

Download a program called "everest" to find out what ram u have and check ur motherboard (I guess u have AGP slot and DDR ram not sure though)+ what psu do u have?

GRAM won't effect performance hugely, look for a clock speed of 1GHZ+, and at least 8 pixel pipelines.

                Hi guys,

                My Everest info is:
                Mobo: Intel Augsburg D915GAG
                RAM: 502MB Dual DDR SDRAM
                PSU: Flex NLX 250W

Just looking @ my pc, I noticed a sticker on the top. My dad got the PC, and the sticker says "Ipex Slim Office". Does this mean it needs special cards because it is a slim PC?

Don't worry about the amount of RAM on the cards, a 7300 and 9550 are just woeful. You're not going to find something new in Australia for your budget thats any good.

Shop around for a secondhand 6600GT/X800 series card, you can get them used for about your budget, andthing less is not worthwhile.

But it will not work because he has a 250 psu, u need atleast a 400W psu then go for a video card otherwise get a nvidia 5700 which sucks hard
