I know BF2 has ranks, but does it have item upgrades, ala BF2142? There is no point in playing BF2142 because it is so unstable, so I thought maybe I'd play BF2 for a few months, but wasn't sure if there were weapon upgrades and what not.

If you simply look on the home page(bf2), it will tell you everthing you need to know. Instead of taking up space, creating the most basic, common knowledge thread there ever was.

I did, and I saw catagories for ranks, medals, ect, but not any upgrades. The weapons page also didn't show any weapons that you can't already start with, and when I clicked on 'ranks' to investigate furthur, I found nothing to do with upgrades. Geeze you guys are so damn harsh, he is just asking for a little help. Anyway, unlocks in what way, you can unlock weapons but not items. You start with grenades, mines, things of that nature. If you can't ask questions on the forum, what is the point of it even existing? Even if they may seem obvious, to some they are not, especially those who have lives and do other things besides game.Comment

Perhaps he will. I dunno i have moved on to bf2142, but i still love these forums too. I find that it runs like butter on my system and as a sniper its nice to have rifle sway, makes it more interesting and weeds out the good from the bad.

Not quite... You don't an unlock with your first rank promotion... but after that you do.. and for a not so limited time, if you install special forces as well you get two unlocks with each promotion after the first.Originally posted by Mr Pmosh

yes there are weapon unlocks for Battlefield 2, and if you have BF2: Special Forces you get extra unlocks
so lets say you play Special Forces for 1 round, now every time you go up in rank you will get 2 unlocks instead of 1Comment

Comfortably_Numb I would definitely recommend purchasing BF2, yeh its a got a few bugs here & there, but for the most part they dont affect play, and the weapons, the levels, the hectic teeth-grinding action are all worth the trouble.
There are certainly unlocks, and many of them kick ***, all of them have their uses. Really I think you will struggle to find a better multiplayer experience than Bf2, and as well as the original game you have the option of Special Forces which allows you more unlocks, more weapons and some sweet levels.
If you are an infantry man (like me) you can tick the 'no vehicles' option in the filters and servers will come up dedicated entirely to infantry combat. If you like jumping in a tank or plane or chopper you've always got the reasonably good booster pack 'Armoured Fury'.
Anyway thats just my opinion, but im sure many others will back me up. Hell, I'm still playing it after a year of owning it, so that must be a good sign!Comment
