well what do you think is better: to stay at one place until you notice that you are detected(or the arty wastes you) or to change positions every minute or so? i know that in real life sniper change position after every 2-3 shots.

Re: stationary or moving sniper
If you are detectable, such as a crane, roof, hillcrest, etc. Shoot and move enough to stay ahead. I find I can stay hidden much longer if I'm making long 1-shot kills where they have no time to locate me. Too many missed headshots, and somebody will countersnipe you.
If you have a spectacular hide, and the patience to not take bad shots, you can shoot all day and only move once the commander spots you via sat. I find few commanders waste arty on a lone sniper when flags are dropping left and right. -
Re: stationary or moving sniper
Generally in VBF2 I'll stay stationary and use the M24 at extreme long range (unlike the L96A1, this thing has nearly no bullet drop, so it's my favorite) for the entire round if I can. But on something like Warlord when I have my zipline, I'll get maybe 5-7 kills, then move to a closer spot to the enemy until I'm killed. Also using the SVD it is imperitive that you move around, it's shot is instantly recognizable and MEC snipers stand out like a sore thumb on city maps. Find an enemy squad, wipe it out, if someone saw you, or even if he didn't, leave a claymore and go somewhere else.Comment

exactly, except for the part about commanders wasting arty. maybe commanders dont like me, but i am consistently killed by arty when im the only one in the area(by consistently i mean a couple times a day)Comment

Re: stationary or moving sniper
i would judge by what map u in...say in jalalabad i expect to see lots of snipers there and its always good to be moving, else u still gonna get detected, but other ones prolly stationaryComment

Re: stationary or moving sniper
Once you've been detected, change spots.
If you have killed somebody, but they have still seen you, you need to move. They'll likely be looking for you when they respawn.
The L96 and the M24 are the best long range sniper rifles due to the thin crosshairs. The M95 is my favourite rifle by far (as I've leanred how to use it effectively), but due to the thicker corsshairs, a lot of experience is needed for long range shots.Comment

Re: stationary or moving sniper
i change my positions when using the m95 since it takes multiple shots, but if im taking my time with the m24 and only going for headshots, i can stay in one positionComment

Sorry m8 but all weapons have the same bulletdrop in BF2.Originally posted by JumintigerGenerally in VBF2 I'll stay stationary and use the M24 at extreme long range (unlike the L96A1, this thing has nearly no bullet drop, so it's my favorite) for the entire round if I can.
What to do in any situation is greatly influenced by the tempo of the round. If you dont want to get hit by Arti try either to stay in earshot distance of the enemy arti or if you are to far away keep track of the enemy arti. So when it has fired on some other location it will take some seconds for it to reload and be ready for a next volley. By that time you should have moved from your spot if you seem to get hit a lot by enemy arti. Try to move between 2-3 spots in any given location. Thats allways helpfull when you get attacked by groundforces also. I use the same technique when I want to make sure I dont get flanked after having been in one spot for some time.Originally posted by shcwell what do you think is better: to stay at one place until you notice that you are detected(or the arty wastes you) or to change positions every minute or so? i know that in real life sniper change position after every 2-3 shots.Comment

Re: stationary or moving sniper
What I do is a find a hiding spot with a view on a flag or a doorway With the L96a1 and stay there then shoot one soldier in the head wait a tiny bit then repeat I almost never get spotted but if I do get spotted run to a position where I have a view on my old position and kill any one who goes there looking for me.Comment

Re: stationary or moving sniper
what it comes down to, is how effective is your technique on helping the team.
for me, it isn't hiding. a mobile sniper not only gets more action, but he can also offer a distraction to the other team. as soon as your squad captures a flag, lay down the claymore and move with the squad and provide them with the long reach of bullets. the claymore isn't the best defense, but it'll slow down that flag from being capped while your squad captures another. a lot of times flags are easier to cap than to defend.
if you're good at confrontation, especially solo against a squad, you can also setup a perimeter of claymores, dance around while sniping, and grenading them while your squad captures the flag behind them. with luck, you can take down a squad of 6 combining the 3.
you can do a lot by being mobile.Comment
