Computer locks up on BF2 - 2142 Only

Brand new system that I only use for gaming and barely any web browsing other than to download a demo, etc.

Whenever I play BF2 or BF2142 it will lock up so hard that I have to do a cold re-boot. Sometimes I can play for 20-30 minutes and other times just for a couple, but it's only on these 2 games. I can play FEAR, MS Flight Simulator X, BIA, etc. for hours without a glitch.

I've cleaned up temp files, cache and even re-installed the games and still having the same problem.

Any suggestions?

heat? what sort of ventilation do you have in your case? That is a strange occurance especially with your cpu and gpu.

I used to get this problem a few yrs ago playing AVP2, it would only lock up on that one game, but i found out that one of my RAM sticks was faulty and was causing it to crash.

So you might aswell try each stick of ram on its own and see what happens,

Otherwise like Corkum stated above, it could be heat related with your GPU, or if your using the latest 9 series gfx drivers, try reverting to the older more stable 8 series like 84.21.

I get the same problem. I also have an AMD. Im on the verge of buying a new motherboard

The map loads and then freezes about 10seconds into the round. I've tried different servers, still no luck.

In BF2 I can play on one server without any problems at all. Never CTD once but it freezes on all others. All my other games are fine, only BF2 crashes.

I can run a singleplayer game with lots of bots and no crashes, only crashes when I play online.

The pc is brand new & I have taken it back numerous times and the hardware is all fine...allegedly
