    Altering existing maps

I am trying to alter an existing map. I have done this in other games like SoF2, Half-Life 2, Far Cry etc, but cannot seem to figure out the proceedure in BF2.

I unzip the client and server files, then load the map in the editor, but no gameplay objects or spawn points etc show up. I did manage to get it to work a little, but can still not get Radar etc to work. Does anyone have some simple steps to altering an existing map? IE: just changing spawning, vehicle placement etc. Nothing fancy.

I did manage to find a fix for adding radar (I think) but I can no longer get the map to load in the game without crashing it.

    Hope someone can help.

For the basics of using the editor you should look at http://www.bf2editor.org/ . If you aren't changing graphics, most things can be changed by editing the text files init.con or GamePlayObjects.con (one for each gamemode and map size).

The editor looks for files in the map's /Editor folder. If you don't have these for the existing maps, look for them at the address jdrou gave (a set were made by =Mad=).

This is not entirely correct, most things if you try to edit this way you are asking for trouble. Learn how to use the editor from the tuitorials posted at bfeditor.org, there you will find how to use the editor and in turn edit existing maps. Its almost better to learn how to make your own maps then comeback later and then modify the existing map. Its best to use to editior to modify things like CP's and associated so things won't get mixed up. Also if you are interested in modifying maps that have coop support this is even mroe important since you will need to view the navmesh and verify vehicles and spawnpoints are not off the navmesh.

Minor edits like jsut swapping out vehicles are fine, but use the editor, trust me it willl be alot easier to make those edits as well.
