    Back to being a Newbie!

I've been off this game for over 6 months. I just quit after the patch making the Assault unlock gun a sniper gun. I didn't want to have to buy all the expansions, so I quit(plus college is a bi*ch and time consuming when your a pilot ). Will I can hold out out anymore, I need the crack back.

I thought about waiting for BF 2142 to come out, but the demo was just to dissappointing. I love the more realistic combat, and it is set in the future, just did really have a "real" feel to it, and I really tried to like it. Just seemed the infantry was nerfed, the vehicles just seemed unrealistic. Weapons were iffy and just not really fun and interesting (:hmm: aiming seemed pointless). So I decided to get back into the BF2.

I was just wanting to know if there are any HUGE changes to stats, rules, game structure, weapons, classes, that have happened . And do I need to get Spec ops and the other expansion to play this. Before I quit there were only 2 servers left for just BF2. Is it still fun, or should I just try another game, which is hard to find this type of game in "Present day" times, most seem to be WWII and those have gotten old. Any comments or ideas. Hey be kind to please too. I'm back to being a total newbie.

    Let me think...

    - Attack helos were nerfed
    - Blackhawk was nerfed
    - Requirements for part of the awards was reduced
    - Jets are still ridiculously overpowered
    - A stupid feature called "Vehicle Drop" was introduced
    - C4 nerfed 3 times
    - Bugs not fixed
    and more...

Awww, I loved C4. The overall power or just radius of damage was nerfed? I love setting up traps when I just wanted to play around. Italian Carbomb was so entertaining, someones all happy to find a empty jeep, they start it, and BANG ! God that was fun. Never to big on the helis anyway, I loved it on fun. They could hold their own.

Haha, hibernated through CTDs and cartilery? What were those?

The 1.3 patch really screwed everything up. Servers were crashing all the time and everyone was losing scores etc.. There were also lots of CTDs (crash to desktops) that happened randonly while playing. Cartillery was like artillery with a vechile drop. As commander you could drop a vechile for teamates who needed one but commanders started zooming in and dropping them on snipers which was really funny for the commander but not for the sniper

I did it once and the guy went mental at me calling me an F ing this and an F ing that...I spent the rest of the round just cartillying him..... good times :) (apart from the CTD's and server crashes obviously)

It is still possible to use cartillery.
In fact I hardly see the Vehicle drop used for what it is for.

its much harder, the vechile always lands to the left of where you drop it now (its affected by the wind like supply drops), but if you do your maths right its still possible.

Whats your views on the game now? And do I need to buy all the expansions to enjoy it? Or do I just need to get Spec Ops. Do you think BF 2142 might get better or less arcadish, little more realistic like BF2. And is there any games like BF2(time period). Any recommendations?

Special Forces, durpy durp. Thanks man! Well what about Euro Forces and Armored Fury? Are they even worth it? What about Special Forces? Any real benifits? When I quit playing there was only 2 ranked servers I could use.

Re: Back to being a Newbie!

i got special forces for the guns, but the other day i went back to the basic weapons and im better with the. the last unlocks are the only reason you should get it. Other than ghost town and warlord there are barely any servers, and in my opinion, those maps suck(dont harass me, my opinion).

Back to the cartillery though, the best was dropping them on tanks and making them explode, im glad its gone though

Re: Back to being a Newbie!

Oh yea I remember Special weapons being used. That one assault gun, bugged the crap out of me, but I got over it. So do you have to singley unlock all the spec force's guns? And is the support guns still fairly accurate?

Re: Back to being a Newbie!

Very few servers have EF and AF in their map rotation, some servers also run only them, but most are on vanilla.

One thing that wasn't pointed out to you here, is that PoE2 (www.pointofexistence.com) is out alsong with some patches. Version 1.1.5 was released the other day. Try that one, many new maps, all new vehicles (excep for the boat) and guns. Other mods should also be coming out soon.

If you like car games then there is even a mod called Battleracer out there. Don't know how many servers are running it at the moment though.

EDIT: The support PKM has become a nice sniper weapon :)
If you have a buddy who has SF then go play at his PC with your account and you will also get the SF unlocks, there is no reason to buy the expansion just for the weapons.

I'm the only person around here that plays it, so I might as well ponder throwing the 20 bucks to EA. Or just work the **** out of the vanilla weapons, Oh yea, thats nice.

*EDIT* Does anyone know any current or upcoming games of the genre? And Youwerekilledby, thats a very good example of cartellary! Was that just an extreme exploit or could you really drop that much down?
