How do you spot with a jet?

Hey, I have a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force and would like to know how do you ppl spot hostile units when you fly.
I can set the "Q" menu to apply with one of the buttons, but then the trigger just doesn't function as a LMB.
I guess the solution is to bypass the q menu and have a button that just spot whatever in front of you.

So what's the trick? :)

I just quickly take my hand off the joystick, onto the mouse, spot, then back.

With my Saitek x52 I have just programmed a button to q with the sst software and programmed the trigger to left mouse button to around this problem, I assume the evo come with the programming software as well?

Yeah the SST as well... Can you specify how you did that?

OK, the BUTTON 6 is the only free one to use the spotted command.
So I tried going to the programming software, right click on Button 6, new macro, and then pressing Q and LMB right afterwards.
After saving, I want to load the profile right? So when I try to load it I get a:

Untitled.dat does not contain a profile for this device.
The device has not been profiled

What does it mean?
I think i'll go check in the saitek forums. Leave a reply if you know what to do.

I have one set to look rear and one to look foreward and then I have one set to free look but set my mouse off to the side so when I hit that I grab it realy quick and look and pray I dont crash and remember what button was cockpit view. lol

Well I managed to fix the profile error, but I can't don't a thing with this software.

I don't own a joystick, but with my Xbox 360 controller all I have to do is press and hold "CTRL" and then look for the enemy and click "Q" and then it'll quickly zoom back to the middle screen and I just fire away and it spots him.

I never played with a Joystick, so I don't know if you gotta fire to use your commands.

Sending you the profile for an X-52 to you with an evo will not work. If I understand you correctly you are trying to set up a macro that will bring up the Commo Rose (Q) and then Clicking (LMB)?

Whilst I disagree with macros In BF2 see no real problem with this one. If the Evo SST software is that same as the X-52 SST do the following:

Go to edit your BF2 profile, Right click on the button (on the left) that you wish to assign the macro to then go to "New Macro". The "Macro Recorder" box will now appear, ensuring that the button with the mouse and red dot in is pressed in order click Q and LMB when you have finished click the button with the mouse and red dot on.

If you want to you can quantize the time meaning standardize the time between the key presses, do this by right clicking on the white space and select a time.

I don't think that you would find a Super Moderator openly helping people break the BFRoE especially one of Talus's calibre. In short no it is not, here is the thread.

Thanks EAGLE, the macro in the previous try didn't work I think becuz the Q was on 0.0 secs and the LMB was a bit later. Now Ive changed it both to 0.00, i'll see tomorrow if it works.

Considering that Roe, even if it was one of their rules, couldnt enforce it for ****, its safe either way.

you can even use autohotkey, just compile it into an exe i think...haven't tried it yet.

I cannot remember what forum I found the following information, but I think it was from Total BF2. I also cannot remember who it was that providied the information - but thanks to them, this has helped me heaps. The Code may need to be edited slightly depending on how many joystick devices you have plugged into your computer. My joystick is GameController_1 while my steering wheel is GameController_0.



Spotting
Spotting really helps when you are chasing down an enemy
jet. It also helps out your wingman. Sometimes there's a
gunner in the bomber to spot for you, or ground troops or
the commander can spot too. But they are usually lazy so
it's best if you just do it yourself. Here's how you do it
with a joystick.

Open up the controls.con, scroll down to ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap

Add the following entry:

ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIOk IDFGameController_1 IDButton_0 0 1

That's Button_0 on my joystick, my primary fire, as I am
usually on the guns.

Now just fly, point your nose at the enemy jet, hold down
your Main Radio button (which you can bind to a joystick
button), and hit the button you just binded to spot the
enemy jet.
