Any way to disable hearing radio binds?

Hi. I searched the forums, but couldn't find an answer.

I've just started playing BF2 again, and the communication spam drives me absolutely nuts. I like to play on 64 player servers, and all I hear is "infantry spotted!" or "I need ammo!" about 50 times a minute, often spammed, usually unnecesary. And it's louder than anything else - the stupid radio binds are louder than artillery blowing you up.

It's seriously affecting my enjoyment and driving me crazy. Not only that, but the radio text message spam makes text fly by, so it's not even worth typing anything because no one is looking. Essentially, they've killed the ability to communicate in game entirely by allowing/encourage a ton of spam.

I would be very much appreciative if anyone can help me figure out a way to disable this.

In my search, I turned up the original BF1942 1.3 patch, which includes this:

You can ignore radio messages, radio sounds and also ignore specific players using the following commands:
    chat.ignoreRadioText <0 or 1>
If 1, No radio text is printed.
    chat.ignoreRadioAudio <0 or 1>
If 1, No radio sounds are played.
    chat.setIgnoreRadioAudioAndText <0 or 1>
If 1, both radio sounds and radio text is supressed
    chat.getIgnoreRadioAudioAndText

So it would appear that DICE at one point realized the need to be able to turn the spam off, patched it into bf1942.... and then... forgot about it for bf2? Those commands won't work.. are there bf2 equivelants?

If not, is there any way, any way at all, that I can filter out all that spam?

    Thanks.

Hmm...I would like to be able to turn it down. There's nothing more frustrating than running up to a flag by yourself and trying to listen for footsteps, but all you can hear is "enemy spotted" and what not.

Surely there must be a setting in game.

In your BF2 main menu, go to Options > Audio. In there you will find a bar that displays the volume of the radio voices. If you want to turn it off, put the bar to 0%. You will also see sound FX volume and music.

Isn't the "voice over" setting under audio for this?
Or does that only affect the DICE god that speaks to you when you first start the game?

The voiceover volume apparently only affects the tutorials.

Yep - they have a slider bar for a pretty small, insignificant part of the game, but none for a HUGE OVERBEARING COMMUNICATIONS-KILLING part.

            What are you talking about?

You can turn off specific ingame audio, or you can turn off volume all together. Radio voices is one you can turn of seperatly. Turn it off, and there you go.

I'm guessing you're talking about the voiceover volume slider. This doesn't affect in game radio binds. It apparently only affects the tutorial voice volume.

you could always just use voip to communicate like everyone else.

I just tried it, you are correct ... what a weird idea to include a volume control for something that most players hear for a fraction of their playing time

We have been wanting this since Day 1...it'll never happen.

Yeah it was never a problem in previous bf games. But since they upped the player count to 64, the radio spam has become unbareable. Something they really overlooked.
Nothing has changed in bf2142 so they should start to fix this as soon as possible and preferably port this over in a patch for bf2 as well.
They really need to keep bf2142 and bf2 hand in hand with similiar patches.

Does anyone have any kind of solution whatsoever?

I'm guessing you can't delete/modify the sound files themselves as that would make the game fail the data verification stage, right?

Is there at least a way to ignore a player who spams excessively?
