Specs:
PIV2,8Ghz
Palit 6800GS 128MB
1,5GB RAM
Fortron 400W
Intel D845PESV mobo
I noticed that my fps don't differ much, regardless of my settings. In a combat-free environment (but with stuff on the screen, buildings etc. not just water) on a 32 player server, on all medium, I will get 25-35 fps, with all low giving me maybe 10fps more and all high (textures, terrain - medium) 5 fps less.
However, in combat situations and/or lots of people running/driving around, those fps often go down to 20 and below in both all medium and all high (textures, terrain - medium) settings (I'm not sure about low, but in all medium except lightning, dynamic stuff on low, fps go down to 20 and less as well).
I've just finished playing on a server and was getting my usual crap performance, but when the map changed and many people left (leaving about 10 people on the server), my fps on all high (textures, terrain - medium), were at a steady 35-45. I could achieve that on low settings on a full 32 player server.
It's not even a matter of how many people are on the screen. FPS go down even if there are many people on the server, but they are not in view (they do not need to be rendered). 64 player servers are unplayable for me.
I'll also add, that with my 6800GS, I have only a slight improvement in fps, compared to the fps I was getting with a 9600pro, even though my 3DMark05 score is more than doubled (about 1800 then, about 4100 now [with OC]).
Maybe it's not my GPU doing crap then? Any ideas what could I do to improve? I defragmented, reinstalled, tried the game on a drive with a fresh WinXP install (well, the 2142 demo actually, which runs worse than BF2 BTW), so it doesn't look like it's a case of a software slowdown.
