I just got basic pistol+knife badge. How long before it shows up and I can become 1st sergeant?

It shouldnt take to long Check bf2s.com for your stats and then use it to check how long till your rank

I'm gunnery sergeant now but I wanted to get those badges to get the promotion, i'm 150 points away from 20,000. Apparently you don't get the promotion if you reach 20,000 before getting the badges so I don't want to play bf2 until the badges show up!

HAHA if you get your points now they will still count even if the badges arnt on the website...

To be on the safe side....monitor BF2S.com and wait until you have the badges!
I have had to earn some badges 3 times before they actually showed up and I was given credit for them, so just to be safe....WAIT!

If you had the points for First Sergeant before you got those badges you won't make First Sergeant because you have t have all the requirements (badges and such) before you make the points.

Well, I followed the advice, good thing, i got the promotion and two unlocks, wohooo!
