Now why am I addicted to playing as a sniper if they are pretty negative in almost everyway? Because there is something almost orgasmic when you pull of that perfect shot, one to the head abrutpley, you for that moment are a god and you just smote the weak for opposing you. Even if its that one kill you got, if it was a perfect shot I feel justified in having a 1:30 k/d ratio. (which has never happened to me thank god). I can understand why people hate the sniper and when I get killed by one I understand completely, but sniping in battlefield 2 is not practical, its art.
If people play out the sniper kit with full teamwork and use of communications- the sniper becomes a valuable asset to the team; they become the watch-towers and sentinels of the battle-field, and also a serious obstacle for ground units.

If a sniper works effectively with the team- they then become such a threat to the opposing team that it requires a full team-effort of commanders and squads to actually take them down.

I've seen a contingent of snipers on a clan server build an invisible force-field at which, anyone steps into, gets mulched. It actually held a boundary so well- that the only way to stop them was to bring in armour through the main arteries, and for the rest of the units on foot to completely flank the way around in. Even that didn't work very well because it made our force movements too predicable- and only ended up in artillery strikes on our vehicles on their way in. Eventually, we had to summon a team effort to get rid of the snipers first before doing anything else.

Snipers... may be weak on their own. But once they start playing as a team-player... my god; you have something to be afraid of.

      Re: The Sniper

I made my record last night. Last couple of nights I have been testing IO servers that has been so much talked about. I love it because my favourite kit while on foot is Sniper and IO is sniper heaven. While playing Jalalabad, I got 42 kills in one round with SVD. God damn that IO mode is good practise for shooting moving targets. I was already pretty good with it but I can tell you after few weeks I'm gonna set up "No trespassing" sing where ever I'm serving

Refering previous thread, sniper is good asset for rushing infantry. Many times attack stops when defenders are in good shelter. Shelter do not apply to the snipers, if ur head is even a bit visible you are an easy target. When defence is down rushing will carry on.

Yeah, funnily enough- in that particlar round where I encountered the 'sniper-force-field', the moment I see the sniper I was aiming at disappear (they turn away in prone so you can't see their head or the gun pointing at you), I die in about 2 seconds time, because another sniper was covering the one I aim at. They had the whole place so well covered, no foot infantry could pass, unless a whole lot of them were willing to give away their lives to let 2 or 3 through.

I believe it was actually a complete squad of snipers. All 6 - covering different points of the way in.

Come to think of it... you're right... A LOT of my kills were not in close quarters... some of them medium range... but many were from long-range. It's the only range I can actually get the computer and net connection to perform the way I want it (that is... properly, and close enough to smooth, real-life movement) so that I can actually SHOOT SOMEONE!!!

I had my most satisfying kill with the barret today - shot a guy through the shoulder / neck as he was running sideways from a very large distance on a crane. It felt goood <3

sniper is my favorite kit by far. i love to shoot people in the head. especially other snipers. the first thing i do when i get to one of my spots is scan for other snipers. i cap flags when i know no one is around, but i'm usually that loser that sits in one place till i'm out of claymores, ammo, or i die.

sounds interesting, what map was this on and where were the snipers camped?
