So, one thing I notice with Vista...I had heard a couple years ago that Vista was going to be able to shut down all unneeded services and behave like a console machine when you fired up games. I am so disappointed that this technology never made it into the product.

Now, after reading stuff like this, I go WTF, why not make it so Vista could run in a Shell/Dos mode for games? It would certainly speed everything up if DX10 and a couple subsystems were needed to run a game. Hell, I bet you could double your frames based on the lack of overhead.

I still dont trust vista enough to use it as an OS.

It's not just that thats keeping me for trying Vista, its a whole slew of things, like DRM for example, thats keeping me from wanting to try Vista. This just adds to the list. And I will try Vista, we're getting three free copies of Vista at work, but I'm not installing it on my computer at home, I'll try it on our internet cafe computers at work.

If it turns out that it is a decent OS (if it is, I'll eat my words) then I'll buy another drive for it as well, I already considered that, may be able to do that with a copy from work, then I don't have to waste $500 for an OS.

the key you get should allow you to install it on 10 machines, so you could essesntially have a free OS, *cough*

Oh, by far it is worth a try...even having a dual boot at that. I am not looking forward though dual booting Linux/XP/Vista. That is going to suck.

For the most part, I like Vista, I really wish Longhorn had shown up two years ago though, I feel like we are behind the times now in terms of software development. I just have to roll my eyes.

There are problems with Vista, but I think these are hurdles that we are going to have to face and learn how to overcome them.
